Is Crimson Desert multiplayer? Your options explained

Okay, so everyone’s been talking about this new open-world action RPG, Crimson Desert, and honestly, I’m super curious about it too! I’ve been seeing a ton of buzz, and I really want to know what it’s all about – especially if it’s something I can play with friends, so I’m trying to find out if it’s a multiplayer game.

Given that Crimson Desert is made by Pearl Abyss, the creators of the popular online game Black Desert Online, it’s easy to see why people might assume it’s a multiplayer experience.

Originally, this project began as a prequel to Black Desert Online. However, as it was developed, it evolved into something different and is no longer connected to the same world.

Read on to find out if Crimson Desert is multiplayer or not.

Is Crimson Desert multiplayer?

No, Crimson Desert is not multiplayer. It is a single player game only.

It might be unexpected, but this game started as a prequel to the online game, Black Desert Online. Initially planned as a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMO), it evolved into a single-player action RPG.

In an interview with playday.one, Will Powers, Pearl Abyss’s marketing and PR director, revealed that “Crimson Desert was initially planned as both a prequel to Black Desert and a massively multiplayer online game (MMO).”

But now it is “a completely different genre”.

He explained that during development, the team reached a point where they had to decide whether to stay true to the game’s original vision or allow it to evolve into something completely new. They ultimately chose to let it become its own unique property, essentially creating a brand new game.

Will there be multiplayer in Crimson Desert?

Crimson Desert will initially be a single-player game, as it was built with that experience in mind. However, the developers haven’t ruled out the possibility of adding multiplayer features down the line, whether officially or through community-created modifications.

Based on an interview with playday.one, the game developers plan to keep working on and improving the game after it’s released.

While these upcoming game updates probably won’t include multiplayer options, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

If the game developers don’t include multiplayer options, it’s likely that dedicated players on PC will create them through modifications.

We’re always amazed by what modders create for games, so it’s possible we might see an unofficial multiplayer mod for the PC version of Crimson Desert eventually.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I’ll be keeping this page updated with any news about changes to the multiplayer in Crimson Desert. If anything new comes out, I’ll post it here!
