*Warning – contains full spoilers for the Cross season 2 finale*

The second season of Cross concluded on Prime Video, with Aldis Hodge’s character in a desperate attempt to both halt Luz’s violent plans and ensure Lance Durand faces consequences for his actions.

The season ended with a thrilling and action-packed finale, as Cross found himself battling enemies from all directions. He then made a surprising choice that dramatically changes things and hints at a very different beginning if the show returns for a third season.

So, what actually occurred in the final episode? What storylines were left unresolved, and did Durand get punished for what he did?

Read on for everything you need to know about the ending of Cross season 2.

Cross season 2 ending explained: What happened to Lance Durand?

Luz fatally wounded Nat by slashing her throat during a struggle that left Luz injured as well. Afterwards, she kidnapped Durand and intended to bury him alive in the same grave as Nat.

Cross and Sampson managed to stop her, and though she got away, they successfully rescued Durand. After a short wait, he was able to activate the Prosperity Seed.

Cross collected substantial evidence demonstrating Durand’s involvement in human trafficking and the use of forced labor, including exploiting children for his personal gain.

But his superiors at the bureau explained they couldn’t pursue Durand. They worried it would harm America’s international reputation, especially since the country was receiving positive attention for its efforts to fight global hunger.

The others tried to get the evidence from him, but Cross quickly knocked Roy unconscious and fled with the drive that held it.

He went on the run, with the likes of Elle, Sampson and his police team helping him along the way.

Kayla understood he was bringing the evidence to Senator Ashford, hoping the Senator would do the right thing to make up for his mother’s wrongdoing. The Senator received the evidence and, standing alongside Durand before the reporters, publicly revealed what had happened.

Ashford introduced a new law, the Corporate Responsibility Bill, making CEOs personally accountable for any illegal acts committed by their companies. He stated that Durand would be the first CEO prosecuted under this new law, with many more to follow. Ashford also expressed his gratitude to Cross for uncovering these crimes.

What happened to Luz?

Cross informed Luz that her aunt, Clare, had stolen $50,000 from Durand and intentionally caused her mother’s death. After relaying this information, they released Clare, intending to use her to lure someone else into a trap.

Following an argument between Luz and Clare on a bridge, Cross and several police officers arrived. Just when it appeared the situation was resolved, Clare unexpectedly pulled out a gun, prompting the officers to fire, resulting in her death.

Luz then jumped off the bridge, falling to her death.

What happened to Kayla?

Kayla received a promotion because the mission to find Luz was successful. She replaced Roy in her new role after he was also promoted.

The finale left one significant storyline unresolved: the secret program Kayla was part of, which involved experiments on soldiers.

The story left us on a cliffhanger in the second-to-last episode. Bobby Trey had located Maggie, the person responsible for everything, who had pretended to die, and was confronting her with a gun.

This storyline could still well come back to haunt Kayla in future seasons.

What happened to Cross and Sampson?

After Ashford spoke publicly supporting him, Cross was cleared of wrongdoing and released from FBI custody. He was expected to receive an award and a promotion, but instead, he unexpectedly announced a surprising decision to his colleagues.

Cross turned in his gun, admitting he’d become disheartened with the system because so many people seemed willing to ignore Durand’s wrongdoing.
