Kaley Cuoco’s upcoming HBO Max show, How To Survive Without Me, is likely to move forward successfully after receiving a $21 million tax credit.
Kaley Cuoco became famous for her role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019. Since then, she’s continued to thrive on television, starring in The Flight Attendant (2020–2022) on HBO Max – a performance that earned her two Emmy nominations – and Based on a True Story (2023–2024) on Peacock. Both of these series ran for two seasons.
Kaley Cuoco’s upcoming HBO Max series, How To Survive Without Me, will receive a $21 million tax break from the state of California, according to Deadline. This makes it even more likely that Warner Bros. Television will order a full season of the show, which was already being considered for a series pickup.
HBO’s new comedy, Rooster, which debuted on March 8th, may get a second season, and has received a $21 million tax credit to help make that happen. The credit will be applied if the show is officially renewed.
The new series, How To Survive Without Me, created by Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran, centers around a family – adult siblings and their father – navigating life, love, and loss in Los Angeles. The show stars Kaley Cuoco, along with Julia Schlaepfer (known from 1923), Joshua Jackson (famous for Dawson’s Creek), and Ray Romano, a three-time Emmy Award winner from Everybody Loves Raymond.
Kaley Cuoco will star as the oldest daughter, who, like her mother, is a perfectionist with a knack for elegance and staying organized. She’s juggling her own family and career when secrets from the past resurface.
From the very beginning, How To Survive Without Me has been a promising project, and the addition of stars Ray Romano, Joshua Jackson, and Kaley Cuoco has made it even more likely to become a full series. The pilot episode is now getting ready to film in Los Angeles.
The $21 million in tax credits awarded to Rooster and How To Survive Without Me won’t result in the same amount of funding for each show. Rooster will have 10 episodes that are each half an hour long per season, while How To Survive Without Me will follow the format of The Pitt, with 15 hour-long episodes.
The show How To Survive Without Me received a significant $21 million in California tax credits, much more than the $12.3 million awarded for the first season of HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television’s The Pitt. This difference shows how much California’s tax incentives have increased in the last two years. In the latest round of credits, The Pitt’s third season was granted $24.2 million.
