As a long-time fan, I can say HBO has really defined quality TV for the last quarter-century, consistently giving us incredible shows in every genre. Now, it’s gotten even easier to revisit those favorites! Thanks to a deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix, a bunch of HBO and Max originals are available on Netflix, and they just added another one. I’m thrilled to hear that every episode of one of HBO’s best animated series – a show that sadly ended over ten years ago – is now streaming on Netflix!
Good news for fans of quirky comedy! All 39 seasons of The Ricky Gervais Show are now streaming on Netflix, starting March 17th. Originally on HBO from 2010 to 2012, the show is based on the hugely popular podcasts and radio shows featuring Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington. It uses a classic, cartoon-like animation style and includes memorable segments like “Monkey News” and “Rockbusters,” all built around audio from the original shows. This is the first time The Ricky Gervais Show has been available to stream on Netflix.
HBO’s The Ricky Gervais Show Is a Comedy Gem
The Ricky Gervais Show is genuinely hilarious and a brilliant example of comedic conversation – you won’t be disappointed. What makes it special is its simplicity and the wonderfully strange way Karl Pilkington thinks. The show’s charm comes from the natural, unfiltered banter between Ricky Gervais’ boisterous laughter, Stephen Merchant’s dry wit, and Pilkington’s uniquely odd perspective. It’s brilliantly absurd, with conversations that wander into strange philosophical territory, innocent observations, and unbelievable stories, offering a delightfully silly and captivating escape. The animation adds another layer of fun, creating surreal visuals and transforming the original podcast into something fresh and polished.
As a huge fan of animation and comedy, I was thrilled when The Ricky Gervais Show first came out – it was genuinely brilliant and quickly became a hit with audiences. It doesn’t have a formal critics’ score, but fans absolutely loved it, and it’s still a bit of a cult favorite for its cheeky, animated take on Gervais’ humor. And the timing of it landing on Netflix is perfect! Gervais has a new adult animated series, Alley Cats, coming out later this year, and it sounds right up his street – six 15-minute episodes about a bunch of scrappy British cats, packed with his trademark observational and often sarcastic wit. I can’t wait!
What’s New on Netflix?
Netflix is offering a lot of exciting content this March! Along with The Ricky Gervais Show, you can now stream original series like The Dinosaurs, The TikTok Killer, Season 2 of ONE PIECE, and Season 7 of Virgin River. For movie fans, Netflix has added titles such as Deepwater Horizon, The Lego Movie, and Zombieland to its selection.
