The newest trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has fans talking about a quick glimpse of Bruce Banner. The shot reveals a small detail that hints at why he is currently the way he is, and it’s making people wonder what this means for the Hulk’s future.
Bruce Banner’s hand device in Spider-Man 4 trailer confirms Hulk detail
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Bruce Banner as a human, sporting a device on his wrist that keeps him that way. He’s shown teaching at Empire State University, and it’s clear he’s not currently in his Smart Hulk form thanks to this inhibitor.
This device, called the Hulk Inhibitor, is an experimental creation of Bruce Banner designed to control his gamma radiation and return him to human form. He’s utilized similar technology before, notably to heal an injured arm in both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
In She-Hulk, Banner reveals he developed an inhibitor because he was stuck as Smart Hulk and couldn’t revert to his human form, Bruce Banner, on his own. A spaceship from Sakaar caused a car accident that damaged the original inhibitor, which then forced him to transform back into Hulk.
In the recent Brand New Day version, Hulk’s tech has been updated. He now uses a smaller device on his wrist, replacing the larger gauntlet from previous appearances. This change shows he’s improved and rebuilt the technology sometime after the She-Hulk series and before the next movie.
The trailer reveals Bruce Banner is now living a normal life, working as a scientist. Peter Parker seeks him out for assistance with a difficult situation involving a genetic mutation. This puts Banner in a crucial role, and a device he’s using seems to be keeping him from transforming back into the Hulk.
Okay, so everyone online was buzzing about this thing in She-Hulk – apparently, Bruce Banner actually built a device to stay human. It’s wild to think he needed something to keep him from turning into the Hulk!
One commenter noted that the device on the Hulk’s wrist is preventing him from reaching his full potential, suggesting fans are anticipating a more powerful transformation in the future.
Marvel will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
