Fantasy stories often transport us to distant lands filled with dragons and ancient magic. But Curt Pires’ Lost Fantasy takes a different approach, imagining a world where magic and mythical creatures secretly exist within our own, threatening to emerge. Now, that world is growing with a new series called Fireborn. Created by Pires and musician Franklin Jonas, Fireborn follows a carefree, wealthy young man who unexpectedly finds himself caught up in a dangerous magical world – and we’re getting an exclusive first look.
Aaron Hillburg, a wealthy but directionless young man, has always avoided responsibility – and his incredibly powerful father. But his life is turned upside down when a mysterious, floating dragon egg chooses him, unlocking a hidden magical heritage within his bloodline. Suddenly, Aaron finds himself hunted by dangerous groups – outlaw wizards, motorcycle gangs with a dark side, and ruthless supernatural leaders – all of whom would destroy the world to claim the egg. This new comic book, Fireborn, from Image Comics, will be available in stores on April 15th.
Fireborn Is a Wild, Video-Game Inspired Adventure that Feels Like the Evolution of ‘90s Comics

Okay, so I just finished reading Fireborn, and wow! The artwork by Patrick Mulholland is incredible, but the story itself? It’s a total rollercoaster! Seriously, imagine taking the action of Invincible, the heart of How to Train Your Dragon, and the dark, gritty feel of Absolute Batman, mixing them all together… that’s Fireborn. I can totally see why Jonas jumped at the chance to work on this – it’s just that good and I couldn’t put it down!

I’ve always been passionate about comic books. Even before I got into music, my dream was to be a comic book writer. Discovering series like Hawkeye by Fraction and Aja, or The Manhattan Projects by Hickman and Pitarra when I was young showed me the incredible potential of visual storytelling. Last year, after sharing my love for comics online, I found Lost Fantasy and immediately connected with it. I’m drawn to books that build immersive worlds with a unique style and a strong sense of self. So, when Curt asked me to collaborate on Fireborn and the backups for Lost Fantasy, I didn’t hesitate. Curt’s been a fantastic friend and mentor, guiding me through the industry while we bring our ideas to life with Patrick’s stunning artwork.

Pires described working on Lost Fantasy as a career highlight. She shared that her passion for the book’s world and collaboration with Luca, Mark, and Micah is surpassed only by the incredible connections she’s made with readers, booksellers, and fellow fans. She considers Franklin one of those valued connections, noting an immediate shared enthusiasm for comics that led her to want to collaborate with him.
The first issue of Fireborn will be available from Image Comics on April 15th. If you want to ensure you get a copy, your local comic shop needs to place their order by March 23rd.
