Why Spider-Man: No Way Home Isn’t on Disney+

Disney+ generally has most of the big movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films – including the popular Spider-Man: No Way Home – aren’t currently available for streaming there. Now that a trailer for the next Spider-Man movie is out, fans are wondering why these films aren’t on Disney+ and where they can watch them.

Why Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t streaming on Disney+

Although Spider-Man: No Way Home is a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, licensing issues are preventing it from being streamed on Disney+.

The main reason you can’t find Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies on Disney+ is because of a deal made way back in 1998. Sony Pictures bought the rights to make Spider-Man movies at that time, and has since created several film series with the character, including those starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

For years, fans wondered when Spider-Man would officially swing into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but rights issues with Sony kept him sidelined. Finally, in 2015, a deal was struck! Marvel and Sony came to an agreement that allowed Spidey to join the MCU, with Marvel taking a creative role in making the films and Sony still handling the business side of things, like getting them into theaters. It was a win-win, and honestly, a huge relief for us Marvel fans!

Even though Disney+ streams many Marvel movies, films distributed by Sony are usually not included on the platform.

Despite some changes to the Disney+ library, you can still watch certain Marvel Cinematic Universe movies starring the character, including Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War.

Where to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home

Great news for all of us Spider-Man fans! I just found out that Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the other two movies in that awesome trilogy, are now streaming on Starz. You can watch them directly through Starz, or if you prefer, through the Apple TV Starz channel or the Starz app on your Roku. Finally, a chance to revisit that epic team-up whenever I want!

In addition, the film is available for rent or purchase on major digital platforms.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will premiere on July 31, 2026, in theatres.
