CD Projekt RED is actively exploring several new game ideas beyond its existing franchises. The company previously mentioned a project called Project Hadar as a potential new IP, and they’ve now confirmed that teams are creating multiple early versions, or prototypes, to test different concepts. According to co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the groundwork for this new IP, Hadar, has been laid, and developers are currently focusing on designing individual components and features.
During our earnings call, we shared an update on our third franchise, Hadar. Development is moving forward quickly, and the team has built a strong base for this completely original game. We now have a clear vision for what makes this world unique, and we’ve established core elements that will support not only the game, but potentially future projects as well.
Later in the conversation, he mentioned that the project will keep improving and expanding in various ways over time.
The team is currently working on the details of what will be in the game. They’re building several test versions and putting them straight into Unreal Engine. This lets them quickly playtest and see how different features and gameplay actually work.
Talk about Project Hadar started in 2022 when CD Projekt RED announced they were developing it entirely on their own. Unlike their popular games Cyberpunk and The Witcher, this new project is a completely original story – it’s not based on any existing books or games.
Nowakowski explained that they plan to keep making games similar to the ones they’ve been creating, giving players a good idea of what to anticipate from their future projects.
A report from October 2022 suggests that the new game, codenamed Hadar, will likely be a role-playing game, similar to other titles made by CD Projekt. During an earnings call, Adam Kiciński hinted that the company plans to stick to the genres it already excels in, leading many to believe Hadar will follow suit.
The latest news about the game Hadar is that CD Projekt RED appears to be growing its development team. A job posting from July 2025 revealed the game will feature RPG elements and a strong focus on close-quarters combat. The position, for a senior gameplay designer, described Hadar as being in the early stages of development. The job description specified at least five years of professional experience, ideally with RPG or action games that emphasize melee combat.
CD Projekt RED hasn’t shared many specifics about Hadar yet. But, as they begin prototyping core gameplay features, we could learn more about the project sometime next year.
“The team has established the foundations of this entirely new IP. Now, we are designing specific elements that might be included in the game, creating multiple prototypes and implementing them directly in Unreal Engine.” – said @michalnowakow during FY 2025 earnings conference
