GameCube Games Just Got Two Major Upgrades on Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online just received two significant improvements for GameCube games. Starting in 2025, Nintendo began subtly enhancing games from older consoles available through the service. GameCube titles were first updated in December, and now they’ve been improved again. These latest changes not only enhance the visuals for Switch 2, but also make playing these classic games feel more authentic, closer to the experience of playing them on the original GameCube console.

It’s not yet known whether recent improvements have been applied to all GameCube games available through Nintendo Switch Online, or if these are just changes for new releases. However, the latest addition, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, does feature some enhancements compared to earlier titles. Nintendo didn’t announce these upgrades, but players quickly spotted the differences.

Two Noticeable Upgrades for GameCube Nostalgics

One improvement is that the analog stick now feels more like the original GameCube controller. Additionally, the game now supports HDR when using the CRT filter, ensuring consistent brightness whether the filter is on or off.

A major problem with playing GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch 2 – input delay – sadly remains. At least in the case of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, there’s no noticeable improvement. While many Nintendo fans hoped this issue would be addressed – it’s been the top request from Nintendo Switch Online members – they are glad to see other improvements have been made.

One Nintendo fan shared their excitement about improved stick sensitivity, saying it will finally allow them to enjoy games like Wind Waker and learn to play F-Zero, which were previously very difficult. They are optimistic about the future of the system.

Nintendo hasn’t announced any of the recent updates and improvements to its Nintendo Switch Online service, which isn’t unusual – they’re not always the best at communicating changes or making things easy for users. Recently, most of these quiet updates have centered around GameCube games, likely because interest in GameCube is high with the upcoming Switch 2, and because the GameCube emulator needed the most work.
