Outlander‘s final season is currently airing, and each new episode continues to generate a strong reaction from its dedicated fans. This marks the end of the beloved series.
The latest season kicked off to a strong start, attracting almost three million viewers across all platforms in its first week. Since this season doesn’t follow one of Diana Gabaldon’s novels directly, is it possible the show could eventually have an ending that matches the books?
When asked about a potential return, executive producer Maril Davis told reporters during a set visit that she wouldn’t rule it out. She said that while she can’t predict the future, she’d be open to it if the opportunity arose and everyone involved was interested. She left the possibility open, saying ‘never say never’.
We’ll need to be patient and wait for the right moment. We’ll have to see when that will be.
Since each season of Outlander has followed a book by Diana Gabaldon, creating this last season was likely more challenging than any before it.

Speaking with TopMob and other media during a set visit, Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts explained that he had extensive conversations with author Diana Gabaldon about the final season. However, he emphasized that the show and the books will ultimately follow different paths, just as they have throughout the series.
While they share the same DNA, both she and we are going to follow our own paths, and she is aware of our plans.
Davis explained that they’re being careful with the show’s final season, as the author still has another book planned. It’s challenging to wrap things up in a way that feels good for fans without interfering with where she intends to take the story, so they’re trying to find a balance.
Jokingly, Davis also said: “Maybe she’ll steal something from us!”
Everyone’s eagerly waiting to see how Outlander ends, but we can still enjoy the episodes that have already aired.
When Outlander season 8 starts, Jamie and Claire discover the effects of war have reached their home at Fraser’s Ridge. The settlement has continued to grow and become successful while they were away.
After years apart and with new faces and shifting dynamics, the Frasers must decide how much they’re willing to give up for their home – and, even more crucially, how much they’ll sacrifice to remain a family.
The Fraser family appears strong when facing outsiders, but hidden secrets are starting to cause trouble within the family. They may have escaped the Revolutionary War, but now they face new challenges as they try to build a life at Fraser’s Ridge.

As a critic, I’ve been following Morgan Cormack’s work for a while now. She’s currently writing about all things drama for TopMob, covering both television and streaming series. Before that, she was an Entertainment Writer at Stylist, and she’s also got a background in content marketing and freelancing. Plus, she’s a literature graduate – a BA in English Literature, to be exact – which really shines through in her insightful takes on the shows she covers. You can tell she understands storytelling on a deeper level.
