Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End premiered in January to rave reviews and quickly became a hit. This season follows Frieren and her companions as they travel north towards Aureole, the place where souls find rest, after Fern achieves the rank of First Class Mage. Currently, Season 2 has 10 episodes, and there’s no news yet about whether it will be followed by another installment.
The current anime season is finishing up this month, but there’s plenty more to watch! Several other great series offer similar heartwarming experiences to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, focusing on characters who grow through their travels and the relationships they build.
7) Wistoria: Wand and Sword

The popular fantasy series returns in April for its second season! If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s a great time to start watching. The show centers on Will Serfort and his quest to become one of the five elite mages – known as Magia Venders – in the kingdom.
Will is determined to climb to the top and find the girl he loved as a child, but his journey will be incredibly difficult – he has no magical abilities. Armed with only a sword, he challenges the established rules of his world and pushes forward with unwavering resolve. While stories about non-magical heroes are common in this genre, Wistoria: Wand and Sword stands out due to its impressive power system, detailed world, and memorable characters.
6) To Your Eternity

To Your Eternity is a deeply moving anime that explores the burden of immortality – the loneliness and pain that come with living forever. The story follows a being sent to Earth to learn about the world, and it can transform into anything it finds, from animals and objects to people, as it travels through time and witnesses centuries of change.
Fushi began his existence as a rock, eventually becoming a wolf and finally a human. Throughout his long life, he travels the world, meeting different people and experiencing their joys, hardships, and ultimately, their passing.
5) Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden is celebrated not just for its beautiful animation, but also for its deeply moving story. Like the character Frieren, who gradually develops feelings over many years, Violet embarks on a journey to understand human emotions. The story centers on Violet, a young woman who was raised as a soldier and struggles to connect with her own feelings after the war.
Violet’s life changes dramatically after recovering from her injuries, as she discovers she’s lost contact with her superior, Major Gilbert Bougainvillea. Finding it hard to adjust to peaceful life after the war, she discovers a new purpose: understanding human emotions. This leads her to become an Auto Memory Doll, writing letters that capture the feelings of others.
4) Secrets of the Silent Witch

Despite rave reviews from both critics and viewers, this fantastic anime from 2025 hasn’t been renewed for a second season. It centers around a remarkably strong mage and features a peaceful atmosphere with moments of gentle humor. The story unfolds in the magical kingdom of Ridill, where the land ruled by Count Kerbeck has a long history of fighting dragons. What makes this anime unique is Monica Everett, the only mage capable of using magic naturally, without relying on enchanted spells.
Despite preferring a quiet, solitary life, the famous mage couldn’t refuse a request from a fellow Sage. She was asked to protect Prince Felix Arc Ridill, who was in serious danger. To protect him discreetly and avoid unwanted attention, she had to overcome her shyness and go undercover as a student at Serendia Academy.
3) Mushishi

While shows like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End are known for their exciting animation and memorable scenes, this series offers a more peaceful and thoughtful experience. It follows the main character, Ginko, as he explores a world inhabited by ‘mushi’ – simple life forms that exist without purpose or morality, and don’t fit into traditional categories of good or evil.
The demons Frieren and her friends battle are consistently malicious, but Mushi aren’t necessarily evil. They sometimes unintentionally harm people simply by existing. Because so little is known about Mushi, Ginko travels the country investigating reports of them. He assists those affected by Mushi and, in the process, learns more about their nature and behavior.
2) Yona of the Dawn

Fans waited ten years after the original manga finished, but in December 2025, a sequel to the anime was announced. The story is a romantic fantasy set in a historical world, following Princess Yona and her protector, Hak, as they flee the castle following the murder of King Il. Yona is heartbroken, struggling to cope with the fact that her father was killed by someone she once loved, Soo-Won.
Yona quickly recovers from her hardships and begins working to improve her kingdom, determined to do so without relying on her former privileged life. Joined by Hak, the famed Dragon Warriors, and a bright young man named Yoon, she journeys throughout the land to fight the corruption and oppression that grew during her father’s rule.
1) Natsume’s Book of Friends

Both shows appeal to different audiences, but Natsume’s Book of Friends is a heartwarming story about finding connection and belonging. It’s set in a beautiful, peaceful countryside and is known for being incredibly comforting to watch. While it features supernatural creatures called Yokai, it’s not scary. Instead, it tells touching stories about loss, thankfulness, and acceptance, creating a bittersweet and emotional experience.
I watched as Takashi Natsume drifted from one foster home to another after losing his parents. It seemed no one ever really accepted him because he could see spirits – Yokai, they’re called. He eventually ended up with the Fujiwara couple in the countryside, and that’s where things got interesting. He met a particularly strong Yokai who revealed the story of his grandmother’s Book of Friends. Though he never knew her, Natsume began to learn about his grandmother through the Yokai she’d interacted with, and it felt like he was getting to know her little by little.
