The new movie, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, has given Sarah Michelle Gellar a record-breaking score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The sequel to the horror comedy follows Grace (Samara Weaving) after she survived a terrifying game of hide-and-seek with her future family. This time, she’s facing a new challenge with new opponents, including Gellar, who is aiming for a powerful position that would give him control. Critics generally liked the film, giving Ready or Not 2 a 75% rating.
Rotten Tomatoes reports that Ready or Not 2 has a 90% audience score, making it the highest-rated film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in over 27 years. This surpasses the previous record held by Cruel Intentions, which scored 80% with audiences. The sequel is also performing better than the original Ready or Not, which received a 78% audience score. Critics are enjoying the increased thrills and gore in the new film, as well as the complex relationship between the characters played by Sam Weaving and Kathryn Newton.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has recently been taking on more visible roles after appearing in smaller parts in movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Do Revenge. She’s also been returning to her strengths in television, starring in horror and thriller series such as Wolf Pack and Dexter: Resurrection. Overall, the 2020s have marked a comeback for Gellar’s career.
Sarah Michelle Gellar will be playing a villain in the upcoming movie Ready or Not 2, taking on a significant role against the main character. While the planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has been cancelled, and she doesn’t currently have any other projects in development, Gellar is staying busy as a judge on Star Search and will also lend her voice to the animated TV series Breaking Bear.
Just a week before it was scheduled to launch, Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that Hulu had cancelled the series. She explained that the decision came down to a single executive. The show would have featured a new slayer named Nova, alongside Gellar returning as her famous character, Buffy Summers.
I was really surprised to see that Ready or Not 2 is one of only two movies Samara Weaving has made that critics at Rotten Tomatoes actually liked! The other one is Scream 2, and right now, that one’s her highest-rated film according to those reviews.
With audiences enjoying the new sequel, positive reviews are expected to boost ticket sales, even as it competes with the popular sci-fi film, Project Hail Mary. Experts predict the film will make $10 million during its first weekend, which is a good return considering its $6–10 million production cost. The original film from 2019 was a huge success, earning $57 million.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as the directing team Radio Silence, are back at the helm. The screenplay was penned by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. The film also stars Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, and David Cronenberg, and reunites the team behind Abigail with Kevin Durand and Newton.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is now playing in theaters.
