The TV adaptation of ‘The Last of Us‘ has cast the actors who will play Yara and Lev, as filming for the third season is underway.
Michelle Mao, known for her role in Bridgerton, and Kyriana Kratter, who appears in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, have been cast as sisters Yara and Lev.
I read that Lev, just like in the game, is a 13-year-old transgender boy in the show, which is awesome. And get this – HBO actually held an open casting call specifically looking for diverse young actors for the role. Apparently, Bella Kratter was one of many talented performers who auditioned, and she landed the part! It’s really cool to see that kind of inclusivity.
In the second game, Yara and Lev play a significant role in Abby Anderson’s (Kaitlyn Dever) story, consistently supporting her as trusted friends and allies, especially as the game progresses.

At just 15 years old, Kratter has already appeared in popular shows like Disney Channel’s Bunk’d and the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew, acting alongside stars Jude Law and Kerry Condon. Many viewers may recognize Mao from her recent role as Rosamund Li in Bridgerton, but she’s also been in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and the Goosebumps TV series.
The cast is growing with the addition of Patrick Wilson, known for “The Conjuring,” and Jason Ritter, from “Matlock.” Wilson will play Abby’s father, Jerry Anderson, while Ritter will portray a new character, Hanley, who is a soldier with the Washington Liberation Front.
Alongside the new additions, three returning faces have been promoted to regular roles.
Mel, Nora, and Owen—characters first seen in season 2—will be central to the upcoming third season. The story will also give Abby a bigger focus than Ellie.
Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, will return in future installments, though her and Dina’s parts will be smaller. This confirmation comes from co-creator Craig Mazin.
When asked about Ellie’s role in the upcoming third season, Ramsey told Variety they had some idea, but couldn’t share any details.
