Robert Kirkman hints that a live-action version of Invincible, featuring exciting action sequences, might be happening in the near future.
Plans for a live-action Invincible movie were first revealed in 2017. Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures announced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg would write, direct, and produce the film. Robert Kirkman, a producer on the project, has said he’s confident a live-action version will eventually be made, stating he’d be very surprised if it didn’t happen.
During a conversation with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant about Invincible season 4, Kirkman addressed the potential for a live-action adaptation, including the possibility of Debbie appearing. While he couldn’t share all the details, he did reveal some information about the film’s development.
He confirmed the project is still being developed, but stressed that making a quality film takes time. He also mentioned maintaining secrecy about new details is still standard practice. His current focus on a television series likely explains the lack of recent news about the live-action remake.
It’s progress, I suppose, but it’s taking a while, and we hope things will fall into place soon. Right now, though, our main priority is the show and making it the best it can be. There are things happening behind the scenes, but we can’t share any details just yet.
Kirkman is deeply committed to the show, and has suggested it could potentially continue for eight to ten seasons. While Invincible has been renewed for a fifth season, Prime Video hasn’t yet confirmed any further seasons beyond that.
No actors have been officially cast for the live-action version yet. However, Sandra Oh, who voices Debbie Grayson in the animated series, playfully suggested she’d be willing to play the role in live-action. Fans have already started suggesting their dream cast, with many hoping to see Jon Hamm or Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Omni-Man and Ryan Potter as Mark Grayson.
Adapting the comic book series Invincible into a live-action show presents significant challenges due to its intense violence, large scope, and powerful emotional themes. Season 4 is known for being a gripping look at both violence and loss, meaning a live-action version would need to carefully blend these elements with strong character development and storytelling that spans multiple settings.
Films like Deadpool showed that R-rated superhero movies could be huge hits, earning over $780 million on a $58 million budget. Logan proved that intense violence can work in stories that are realistic and emotionally powerful. Invincible will need to combine these elements while staying true to the complex details of the original comic book.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have been involved with this project since 2017, and they’re known for blending action with strong character development. They were executive producers on shows like The Boys and Preacher, and Rogen already plays a key role in the Invincible world, providing the voice for Allen the Alien in the animated series.
Kirkman has confirmed that the live-action Invincible series is still in development, but it’s a project for the future. There’s no estimated release date yet, but progress is being made carefully and strategically.
