Disney+’s #1 Movie Will Take a Long Time To Dethrone (After Also Winning the Box Office)

Before Zootopia 2 came out, Disney was having a surprisingly difficult year at the box office. While the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake was a big hit, earning over $1 billion worldwide, most of Disney’s other new movies – including those from Marvel and Pixar – didn’t perform well. Zootopia 2 came along at just the right moment, giving Disney a much-needed boost and breaking box office records with a worldwide total of $1.8 billion. The film was also critically acclaimed and appealed to audiences of all ages. Given its success in theaters, it’s no surprise that Zootopia 2 is now a top seller on DVD and streaming.

The new movie Zootopia 2 quickly became the most popular film on Disney+, premiering on March 11th. Data from FlixPatrol shows it’s currently the #1 movie worldwide on the platform, with a score of 717. Bluey’s Big Play is a distant second with 431, and Predator: Badlands comes in third at 332. Zootopia 2 is firmly in the top spot and doesn’t appear to be losing its lead anytime soon.

Why Zootopia 2 Is Dominating Disney+ (and What Could Beat It?)

Streaming services have become a haven for movies that didn’t do well in theaters, giving them a chance to find an audience. But plenty of successful films also top the streaming charts, and Zootopia 2 is a prime example. The movie was already a hit in theaters in 2025, so there was a lot of interest in watching it again at home. While Avatar: Fire and Ash was a financial success, earning over $1 billion globally, it’s a long, intense sci-fi movie that wasn’t a huge hit with audiences, and it doesn’t have the broad appeal of Zootopia 2. Although Disney has several potential blockbusters planned for this summer – including The Mandalorian and Grogu, Toy Story 5, and Moana – they won’t be available on Disney+ until the fall, after playing in theaters. This suggests Zootopia 2 could remain Disney+’s most-watched movie for several months, potentially until September.

It’s possible Zootopia 2 will remain Disney’s highest-grossing animated film for quite some time. While Toy Story 5 seems like a strong contender, surpassing Zootopia 2‘s $1.8 billion in earnings would be a significant challenge. Previous Toy Story films earned over $1 billion each, but still fell short of Zootopia 2‘s record. Currently, Frozen III, scheduled for 2027, appears to be the most likely Disney film to break the record—it even surpassed the previous record held by Frozen II. Given this success, it’s not surprising that plans for Zootopia 3 are likely in the works.
