Fans of the Ghosts series are thrilled to hear that the beloved ghosts will be returning to Button House for more adventures.
The film Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is scheduled to be released later this year. It follows the conclusion of the popular TV series, which ended three years ago and was watched by 7.2 million people.
Even though it appeared the story of Button House had finished, co-writer Simon Farnaby recently explained why they decided to revisit those popular characters.
I recently chatted with Farnanby, and he told me a fascinating story about ‘Ghosts’. Apparently, they initially shelved the project when it was really taking off! But they weren’t quite ready to let it go. They tossed around the idea of a stage play for a while, and then finally landed on a movie. He thinks it’s a great way to expand the ‘Ghosts’ universe, offering something different from the TV series while still capturing its spirit.
The plot is being kept secret for now, but it’s promised to be thrilling. The team behind the show ‘Ghosts’ previously stated they had finished with the story at the end of the last series and didn’t intend to return. However, a new idea sparked so much enthusiasm that they couldn’t resist revisiting Button House for one final adventure.
I’m so excited for us to finally come together and meet some incredibly talented new people. We’re about to share a truly moving story, one that really gets at the heart of what it means to live and ultimately, to face the end.

Besides working on ‘Ghosts,’ Farnaby is also involved with the upcoming movie adaptation of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree,’ based on the popular Enid Blyton books. This isn’t the first time he’s brought a children’s classic to life – he previously appeared in a special Paddington sketch for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Farnaby once shared a scene with the Queen and, as he told TopMob, complimented her acting. He recalled saying, ‘You’re a good actress, ma’am,’ to which she replied, ‘I do it all the time, you see.’
Farnaby thought the woman was speaking in a figure of speech, so she asked, ‘Are you pretending to be the Queen?’ But the woman insisted, ‘No, I am the Queen.’ She then gave Farnaby a frustrated look, gestured to where Paddington Bear should have been, and declared, ‘He’s not real, but I am. I’m the Queen!’

The new movie, Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, will hit theaters in the UK and Ireland on October 23, 2026. You can currently watch the Ghosts series on BBC iPlayer.
