As a longtime follower of superhero cinema, I’ve always said DC Comics really set the standard. They’ve been crafting these incredible characters for decades – the ones everyone else seems to build from. What I find consistently fascinating about DC’s heroes isn’t just that they’re fighting crime on the streets, but that they’re constantly facing threats that could wipe out cities, even the entire world! And honestly, it feels like every year brings a new universe- or multiverse-level crisis. Let’s be real, DC’s rogues’ gallery is packed with some of the most terrifying villains ever created, and their heroes are practically always on call to deal with them. It truly feels like a never-ending struggle for these characters, and that’s what keeps me coming back for more.
Many of DC’s most iconic heroes are constantly facing incredibly difficult challenges, and a few of them really deserve a vacation. They’re always putting themselves in harm’s way, and some time to rest and recharge would be good for them before they jump back into the action. Here are seven DC heroes who could definitely use a break.
7) John Constantine

John Constantine is a powerful mystic who dedicates his life to protecting the world, and he’s willing to do absolutely anything to succeed – even make terrible sacrifices. He’s haunted by the loss of loved ones, and those are just the ones who had a chance. Constantine is constantly battling forces beyond human comprehension, and he’s desperately in need of a respite. All he really wants is a bottle of whisky, a pack of cigarettes, and a long stretch of loud, gritty punk rock music.
6) Wally West

Okay, look, as a huge Flash fan, I’m telling you, Wally West is the best Flash. Seriously, the guy’s been battling bad guys practically since diapers! He stepped up after his Uncle Barry, becoming the fastest man alive, and he’s really made a life for himself – a beautiful family with Linda Park and three kids. It’s non-stop for him though: fighting villains, teaching his older kids how to use the Speed Force, teaming up with the whole Flash Family, and just generally moving at impossible speeds. He even tried to take a family vacation in 2024, but of course, ended up in a huge war with Eclipso leading into the DC K.O. event. Honestly, the Wests deserve a real break. There are plenty of other speedsters who could easily cover for him for a while!
5) Mister Terrific

Michael Holt, also known as Mister Terrific, dedicated his life to being a hero after a personal tragedy. Once a world-class athlete and highly educated scientist, he turned to superheroism following the death of his wife. He’s become a key leader in both the Justice Society and the Justice League, constantly balancing crime-fighting with his work at his company, TerrifiTech. Completely consumed by his heroic duties, he recently discovered he has a son who was taken from him. He desperately needs a break to connect with his child and step away from his responsibilities, even if just for a little while.
4) Nightwing

Dick Grayson has been fighting crime in cities like Gotham and Bludhaven since he was very young. He’s been a leader of the Titans through several versions, battling everything from demons to aliens. He’s even stepped into Batman’s role and led his own Justice League team. Despite facing challenges like having his secret identity revealed and working undercover, he’s always kept going. He’s generous and kind, often donating his wealth, but he truly never rests. Barbara needs to help him relax – by hiding his suit and sending him on a much-needed vacation around the world.
3) Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter is a truly powerful hero, but he’s incredibly lonely. This isolation is understandable, as he’s the last surviving Green Martian and constantly reminded of his lost family. Despite his dedication to being a superhero, he deserves some downtime. He could use a vacation among the stars with his student, Miss Martian, or simply enjoy the company of his Justice League International teammates, sharing his humor and indulging in his favorite snack, Chocos.
2) Lois Lane

Lois Lane is incredibly driven and always on the go – she probably wouldn’t even understand the concept of relaxing! As one of the most famous comic book characters, she’s a dedicated reporter who’s constantly working. On top of her career, she balances adventures with her husband, raising their son, and even taking in whatever child Superman brings home. Now the editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet, she’s also dealing with unpredictable new superpowers. Superman really needs to convince her to take a vacation, even if she doesn’t want to, so she can finally relax and enjoy some time off.
1) Batman

Batman is DC’s most dedicated hero, and frankly, he desperately needs a break. He’s completely consumed by his mission and can’t seem to relax. Every night, he battles incredibly dangerous criminals, on top of his responsibilities with Superman and the Justice League. He’s constantly working, and it’s time someone forced him to rest. Alfred used to handle this, but now it’s up to the rest of the Bat-Family to convince Bruce to take a vacation – even if they have to use tech to make sure he doesn’t immediately go after the Joker!
