A fresh trailer has surfaced for the forthcoming boxing biopic Christy, and it’s clear that lead actress Sydney Sweeney undergoes a significant transformation in her portrayal of the title character.
In the picture that accompanied the news about the movie premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September, we can see Sweeney, donning boxing gear such as gloves, a white mouth guard, and a short, brown wig, inside the boxing ring.
The movie features Sweeney competing against legendary boxer Christy Martin, who became well-known as the pioneering figure of American women’s boxing in the 1990s.
The story delves into her journey to fame and the attempted murder by her husband in 2010, starring Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian as part of an impressive ensemble.

In a chat with W Magazine, director David Michód revealed that the actor from Euphoria had added over 30 pounds to his weight for the purpose of portraying the character as an athlete.
Sweeney shared with the publication that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience of preparing for the movie role. Initially, they joined the project to portray Christy, and underwent approximately three and a half months of training. This involved adjusting their diet as well.
In the morning, I did an hour of weight training, followed by around two hours of kickboxing in the afternoon, and wrapped up my day with another hour of weight training in the evening.

She remarked: “My physical form underwent a significant transformation. None of my garments suited me anymore. Typically, I wear a size 23 in jeans, and I found myself in a size 27. It was astounding! I exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness!’ Yet, it was fantastic: I felt incredibly powerful, almost unbelievably so.
Last year, I was fortunate enough to share glimpses from the set, showcasing Martin donning her character’s costume during filming. I couldn’t help but express my admiration for this remarkable woman, who proved herself to be not just a formidable force within the ring, but also a valiant fighter in battles that took place beyond it. Simply put, she embodies strength and resilience.
She went on to say, ‘Her life story demonstrates resilience, power, and optimism, and I feel privileged to carry on her legacy by telling you about it.’
