The popular game Starfield, developed by Xbox Game Studios, is now available on PlayStation 5 as of April 7th. Pre-orders are strong, particularly for the Premium Edition, which includes all previously released content and the new Terran Armada expansion. Despite earlier reports, a version of the game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may still be in development.
So, I’ve been following this whole thing, and it sounds like the port is still happening, but it’s been a rough ride. NateTheHate tweeted that development hasn’t been easy, and we should just hope for the best. Remember shinobi602 saying last month that it was delayed and might not even release? Bethesda hasn’t officially cancelled it, but honestly, there are no guarantees at this point. It’s a bit of a waiting game, and I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much!
It’s happened before – large game developers have struggled to get their titles running on Nintendo’s next console, as seen with Gearbox and Borderlands 4. Bethesda has managed to port The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition and Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, with Fallout 4 performing better. However, Starfield is a much more ambitious and expansive game, presenting a significantly greater challenge.
The game is getting even more involved with the new Free Lanes update! This update lets you travel between planets within a star system, though you won’t be able to land or launch directly from them. You’ll also find new X-Tech to improve your equipment and ship, plus the ability to hire new companions and share storage across outposts. For a closer look, check out our detailed feature.
It’s in development but it hasn’t been a smooth process. Cross fingers and hope for the best.
