Over the next few years, Disney plans to release a number of films from its different studios. This includes new animated movies from Disney and Pixar, as well as films branded by Fox. They also have live-action movies planned, including the latest installments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise from Lucasfilm.
Disney currently has a strong lineup of highly anticipated films, largely due to its popular animated movies and franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has two major films on the horizon, the most excitement seems to be around Disney’s animated projects.

A new Star Wars film is hitting cinemas this year. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will continue the story from the popular Disney+ series, but with a theatrical release. It’s scheduled to arrive on May 22nd and will feature the show’s original cast alongside some well-known actors.
Sigourney Weaver will appear as a seasoned pilot who used to fight with the rebellion and now commands her own team, the Adelphi Rangers. The trailer also reveals we’ll be up against a villain fans will recognize: Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, who will be voiced by Jeremy Allen White.
This new installment of Star Wars feels quite different from previous films, focusing more on exciting adventures and lighthearted fun. Whether fans will embrace this change is still uncertain. Jon Favreau directed the movie, and he also co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor.
Toy Story 5
Many fans thought the Toy Story series concluded with Toy Story 3, as it wrapped up Andy’s story with his toys. But Pixar brought the franchise back with Toy Story 4, which felt like a definitive ending when Woody decided to embark on a new adventure after Andy went off to college and no longer needed him.
Pixar will release Toy Story 5 in 2026, continuing the beloved franchise as long as there are compelling stories to share. This new installment explores what happens when electronic devices enter a child’s life and potentially replace traditional toys.
Despite facing challenges, the toys aren’t giving up without a fight, and the new movie promises a heartwarming story about the enduring power of imagination and play in a world full of screens. Toy Story 5 will be released on June 19th.
Moana
Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch was a huge success in 2025, earning over $1 billion in theaters. Following this, Disney plans to continue reimagining its classic animated films with live-action versions, and Moana is next. The live-action Moana will be released in theaters on July 30, 2026.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been hearing the debate about a live-action Moana. Honestly, some people think it’s unnecessary, especially since the original animated film is still so recent – it only came out ten years ago! But Disney went ahead with it anyway, even though they just released another animated Moana movie two years ago. And it’s really odd that Dwayne Johnson is reprising his role as Maui in both versions – it feels a little redundant, doesn’t it?
As a big Disney fan, I’m seeing this new movie as a potential win for them – they could easily rake in another billion dollars by revisiting a story they already nailed, but this time with real actors and a lot of impressive special effects, especially for the water scenes. It’s exciting to see Thomas Kail directing – it’s his first time with a big live-action film – and the scriptwriter, Jared Bush, actually worked on the original animated movie, which is a good sign!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is here, and it seems this new Marvel movie will give comic book fans what they’ve always wanted from Spider-Man. Traditionally, Marvel Comics has always portrayed Spider-Man as troubled and lacking confidence, and this film appears to continue that trend.
The movie picks up four years after the events of the last film, where Spider-Man successfully made the world forget his secret identity – and even who Peter Parker is. While Spider-Man continued to be a celebrated hero, Peter found himself increasingly isolated as MJ and Ned moved on with their lives.
I’m so hyped for this new Marvel movie! They’ve got the Hulk and Punisher showing up, plus Sadie Sink is in it, and her role is a total secret! Knowing this is the last movie before Avengers: Doomsday… well, it’s going to be huge seeing how they connect everything. And get this – Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming out July 31st! It’s going to be a busy summer for Marvel fans like me!
Hexed
Disney’s next animated movie, Hexed, is scheduled for release in November 2026. Josie Trinidad, known for her work on Zootopia+, and Jason Hand, who worked on Moana 2, are directing the film. Hexed will be Disney’s third animated release of 2026, following Pixar’s Hoppers and the planned Toy Story 5.
The movie centers on a clumsy teen and his overbearing mother who discover he has magical abilities, completely changing their lives. Disney’s recent films have been a mixed bag – while Moana 2 and Zootopia 2 performed well, Strange World and Wish didn’t do as well at the box office.
The movie feels similar to Wish, though it also has some of the artistic style of Encanto. It’s not quite Zootopia 2, but there’s potential to enjoy it.
Avengers: Doomsday / Avengers: Secret Wars
These two films are connected, forming one big story, similar to how Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were split into two parts. The first film, Avengers: Doomsday, will be released this Christmas and will introduce the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’ll initially fight the Avengers, but eventually, all the heroes will join forces to defeat Doctor Doom.
The first movie in this series should end like Avengers: Infinity War, with Doctor Doom seemingly winning despite Earth’s destruction. However, he then rebuilds the world to reflect his own vision, much like the plot of Avengers: Secret Wars. In that story, Doom reigns as emperor, and heroes exist as alternate versions of themselves.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has released several major films since Avengers: Endgame, and their success depends on strong audience turnout. For fans of Marvel and superhero movies, how well these films perform – with the next one expected in December 2027 – will likely determine the future of the genre.
Ice Age: Boiling Point
Looking ahead to 2027, it’s important to remember that Disney owns more than just films from Disney Animation and Pixar. The Ice Age movies were originally made by Blue Sky Studios, which was owned by Fox before Disney acquired it. As a result, Disney now has the rights to the Ice Age franchise.
I’m so excited for the new Ice Age movie! It’s called Ice Age: Boiling Point and it’s coming out on February 5, 2027. This will be the first one Disney is making, though it’s through their 20th Century Studios label. From what I’ve heard, the gang is heading back to the Lost World – that underground dinosaur land – for the first time since Collision Course! It’s going to be awesome.
The original voice actors are all back for the film, including Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Simon Pegg as Buck, and Queen Latifah as Ellie.
Gatto
Pixar’s next original film, titled Gatto, is now scheduled to release on March 5, 2027 – around the same time as this year’s Hoppers. This will be Pixar’s 32nd movie and is set in Italy, featuring a cat named Nero as the main character.
The film has a unique, painterly animation style, reminiscent of artists like Monet. It tells the story of a mafia world, where a character named Nero finds himself under the control of a powerful cat mob boss. The movie’s release was delayed because Pixar wanted to avoid going up against Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in theaters.
The film aims to build on the strong reputation Pixar has earned with its original stories. Recent successes like Hoppers in 2026, and well-received films such as Elio and Elemental (released in 2023 and 2025, respectively) – though perhaps not fully appreciated by critics – demonstrate this track record.
Star Wars: Starfighter
A new Star Wars film, Star Wars: Starfighter, is scheduled for release in 2027, after The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026. Unlike the previous movie, Starfighter won’t be directly connected to existing Star Wars stories, so it will rely on exciting action and a strong cast—including Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith—to attract audiences.
Shawn Levy, the director of films like Deadpool & Wolverine, is making his first foray into the Star Wars universe with Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie takes place five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and it’s designed to be a complete story on its own, without leading into any sequels.
Whether this movie will be a hit is uncertain. While fans of the franchise are hoping for a strong connection to the existing story, exciting space battles and compelling characters in the trailers could make Star Wars: Starfighter a pleasant surprise when it arrives in theaters on May 28, 2027.
Incredibles 3
A new Incredibles movie is coming from Pixar in 2027! Director Brad Bird has mentioned that some of his ideas for the sequel weren’t able to make it into the film due to a shorter production schedule.
Brad Bird has confirmed that unresolved storylines from Incredibles 2 will be continued in a third film. Disney has announced that Incredibles 3 is scheduled for release on June 16, 2028 – a decade after the second movie came out.
Brad Bird won’t be directing the next Incredibles movie, but he is writing the script. Peter Sohn, who directed Elemental, will take on directing duties. While a Coco sequel is planned, Incredibles 3 is the only Pixar film with a confirmed release date as part of Disney’s upcoming releases.
