Halo: Campaign Evolved is Being Co-Developed by Halo Studios, Virtuos and Abstraction – Rumor

Halo Studios is reportedly still working on the new Halo campaign, and a recent report from YouTuber Rebs Gaming – who originally revealed the game was in development – suggests they’re getting help from a studio called Abstraction. Rebs Gaming’s latest video points out that Abstraction has co-developed several big games, including titles in the Mass Effect series and more recent hits like Baldur’s Gate 3.

In 2021, Abstraction was recognized for collaborating with 343 Industries on accessibility improvements for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. This involved adding more language options, features for players with color blindness, and ways to customize subtitles.

Rebs Gaming reports that Abstraction began co-developing the game, originally known as Halo: Campaign Evolved, in the summer of 2023, according to a former developer. A current developer added that Abstraction is responsible for level design, technical design, and even creating complete missions for the game.

This project involves a lot of work, including designing the overall look and feel, refining existing elements, adding new in-game events, and adjusting combat to work with features like sprinting and four-player cooperative play.

The video also highlights the connection between Abstraction and Virtuos, a studio that often helps with game development, as well as creating updated versions of existing games. Virtuos bought Abstraction in January 2025, recognizing their skills in co-development and engineering. However, just a year later, in December 2025, Abstraction became independent again. Both companies state that they continue to have a good working relationship.

This information comes from a developer working with Rebs Gaming. They mentioned that Virtuos is contributing to the development of Halo: Campaign Evolved in some way. This developer also explained that their job includes coordinating work between different development teams, likely including both Virtuos and Abstraction. Exactly how much Virtuos is involved is still unclear.

There’s been talk recently that Halo: Combat Evolved is expected to launch later this year. Some reports suggest a summer release, while others point to a release before September.

Halo: Combat Evolved is being rebuilt for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This will be the first Halo game ever released on a PlayStation console. Beyond updated graphics, the remake will include redesigned levels, enhanced cutscenes, and weapons that weren’t available in the original game until later installments. The game will focus solely on the campaign experience and won’t include traditional competitive multiplayer, instead emphasizing co-operative play.
