27-Part Detective Series On Peacock Is TV Supremacy On Full Display

With so many detective shows available, a new 27-episode police series on Peacock really stands out as one of the best. Stories about law enforcement have always been popular on television and continue to be a reliable choice for compelling small-screen entertainment.

Popular broadcast networks like CBS, ABC, and NBC have consistently successful shows such as NCIS, FBI, and The Rookie, which have even spawned multiple spin-offs. Streaming services and cable channels offer darker, more intense detective dramas like Netflix’s The Night Agent, HBO’s True Detective, and Paramount+’s Criminal Minds: Evolution. However, one detective series truly stands out from the rest.

No Other Show Tackles Heinous Crimes Except For Law & Order: SVU

As a big TV fan, I remember when Law & Order: SVU first came on in 1999 – it was exciting to see the Law & Order world expand! Honestly, after almost 30 years, it’s easy to forget it even started as a spin-off, because it’s become so iconic on its own. Mariska Hargitay and the SVU team have been a constant on NBC for years, and it’s amazing that it’s now the longest-running scripted show still going. What really sets SVU apart, though, is that it’s the only detective show that consistently dives into truly awful crimes – it’s tough to watch, but incredibly impactful.

Unlike other crime dramas that cover a wide range of offenses like murder and robbery, Law & Order: SVU focuses specifically on sexually based crimes – including rape, abuse of children, human trafficking, and domestic violence. The show also features cases involving vulnerable individuals like the disabled and elderly, even when the crimes aren’t sexual in nature. The subject matter of Law & Order: SVU is particularly disturbing, and made even more impactful by the fact that some of the main characters have personal experiences with these types of crimes.

After 27 Years, Law & Order: SVU Continues To Deliver Compelling Stories Every Week

After 27 seasons and over 588 episodes, Law & Order: SVU stands out for its ability to consistently deliver engaging stories. Unlike many similar crime shows that start repeating plots, SVU, now streaming on Peacock, continues to come up with fresh and inventive cases. This is largely because the show balances its focus on solving crimes with the ongoing personal storylines of its characters. Plus, SVU has become well-known as a show that helps launch the careers of many actors in Hollywood.

It’s understandably upsetting to consider the many ways people become victims, especially because Law & Order: SVU often draws inspiration from real-life events. Despite this, the show has inadvertently become a source of information for its dedicated viewers. While the cases are fictional, they can offer guidance on how to handle a similar situation if someone were to experience it themselves.

NBC hasn’t officially announced whether the show will continue past season 27 of Law & Order: SVU, but most people expect it to be renewed. In the meantime, viewers can rewatch episodes on streaming services and through TV reruns.

Law & Order: SVU is available to stream on Peacock.
