Toni Braxton Cuts Concert Short Due to “Unexpected Personal Emergency”

Toni Braxton is hoping to un-break her fans’ hearts.

During the New Edition Way Tour in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 22nd, the singer of “He Wasn’t Man Enough” performed only two songs before leaving the concert. She typically performs a nine-song set.

Toni shared on Instagram on March 23rd that she unfortunately couldn’t complete the show the night before. She explained she had a sudden personal issue that required her immediate attention.

I should have given you absolutely everything, and I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to,” she said softly. “Even now, I can feel how much you care, and I really appreciate your understanding.

The 58-year-old singer, currently on tour with New Edition and Boyz II Men since January, didn’t explain why she had to end her performance early. However, she has talked before about the difficulties of being on tour.

After being diagnosed with lupus in 2008, Toni has been open about the challenges of managing her health while continuing to perform. Dealing with the condition—and undergoing emergency heart surgery in 2022—was difficult, especially leading up to her Las Vegas residency starting in 2024.

Honestly, I was feeling a bit nervous leading up to everything, and a lot of that was just the anxiety of being prepared. I had a thorough check-up with my doctor, and they gave me the green light – everything looked good! Of course, the recent health scare was still on my mind, and performing always brings its own pressures. But I have faith, and I truly believe things are going to be okay, so I’m feeling positive and ready to move forward.

It’s been a process for Toni to adjust to her life now, especially as she co-parents her children, Denim, 24, and Diezel, 22, with her former husband, Keri Lewis.

She told Interview magazine in 2018 that she doesn’t always feel optimistic. “There are days when I get angry about being sick,” she admitted, “but today is a good day. I appreciate your patience, and I’m aware that I sometimes overexert myself because I know my limits.”

She explained that she believes all artists naturally work this way, regardless of their health. Personally, she needs to remind herself to take things slowly and at her own pace, which helps her stay on track and feel better. It’s a much more effective approach when she does that.

After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online feedback. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was alright. She then found she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.

Although the symptoms eventually passed, Hailey went to the hospital and tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).

Further examination at UCLA uncovered a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her heart, passed through the hole, and reached her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey later told viewers of Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be completely fine and she was grateful he was on the mend.

In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, Foxx explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he’d had a brain bleed, leading to a stroke.

After surgery, it took 20 days for Foxx to regain consciousness. When he woke up on May 4th, he was in a wheelchair and unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy.

Foxx expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, stating, “I needed every prayer.”

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

After being taken to the hospital, doctors quickly diagnosed her with a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery.

Emilia underwent immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak clearly. Thankfully, the aphasia subsided after a week, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month.

However, a 2013 brain scan revealed the growth had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, leading to a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Despite these terrifying experiences, Emilia Clarke is now happy to say she has made a full recovery and is doing well.
