Netflix has significantly strengthened its science fiction offerings by adding a highly-regarded series from a competing streaming platform. Now, they have a powerful combination: a compelling dystopian show and the ideal series to watch immediately after. Sci-fi shows vary greatly in their complexity; some, like Resident Alien, achieve success with a simpler approach.
The sci-fi TV shows that are remembered as the greatest usually explore big ideas and feature surprising twists. Netflix’s Dark is a prime example. Now, another complex sci-fi show is gaining popularity on the platform, and it’s a great pairing with this existing series.
Netflix’s Recent Sci-Fi Arrival Is Worth Watching
Prime Video’s hit show, The Man in the High Castle, was one of the streaming service’s very first original series and played a key role in establishing Prime Video as a major player. Recently, however, the show has been gaining attention for a different reason: it began streaming on Netflix on March 11th as part of a content-sharing agreement between the platforms.
A new audience now has the chance to discover this captivating sci-fi series. Originally released on Prime Video in 2016, the show presents a gripping alternate history: what if the Nazis and Japan had won World War II and divided the United States? As the story unfolds, it delves into parallel universes and the struggle to control them, taking the sci-fi elements to an extreme.
Netflix Has The Perfect The Man In The High Castle Follow-Up
As a huge fan, I’ve noticed a lot of people, myself included, have already finished all four seasons of The Man in the High Castle now that it’s had a couple of weekends to gain traction. If you’re like me and you’ve binged it all, I highly recommend checking out 1983 next – it’s another great sci-fi series on Netflix!
“1983” is a great continuation of the story told in “The Man in the High Castle” because they explore similar themes. Instead of a Nazi-occupied America, the Netflix series “1983” presents a world where the Cold War continues and the Iron Curtain remains in place – specifically, Poland hasn’t experienced the political changes that led to the fall of communism.
If you enjoyed The Man in the High Castle and were hoping for more of its alternate history, 1983 is a great next watch. This Polish series explores similar themes but with a more focused storyline and less emphasis on science fiction. At just one season with eight episodes, it’s a quick and satisfying binge, especially after finishing The Man in the High Castle on Netflix.
