Marvel fans are really hoping to see more of Blade. The character, a half-vampire known as the Daywalker, has been popular since his comic book debut in 1973, but Wesley Snipes’ movies in 1998 made him a true icon. While a new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali was announced in 2019 to connect with the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe, it hasn’t been released yet. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the famous vampire hunter – he’s coming to Peacock in April.
On April 1st, all three original Blade movies—Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004)—will be available to stream on Peacock. The trilogy was previously on the platform last September, but it’s likely they won’t stay long, so fans should watch them soon!
The Blade Trilogy Represents Some of Marvel’s Best Movies (And It’s Packed With Familiar Faces)
Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe films are now widely celebrated, the Blade trilogy was a fantastic series long before Iron Man appeared on screen. A key reason for this is that Blade successfully blended comic book action with genuine horror elements. The original film, starring Wesley Snipes, alongside Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, and N’Bushe Wright, not only introduced audiences to Blade – a half-vampire who could walk in the daytime and hunt vampires – but also crafted a story that resonated with people who weren’t familiar with the comics.
As a big fan of the Blade films, I always appreciated how the sequels kept that cool mix of comic book action and classic horror – it really gave them a vibe all their own. The whole trilogy brought back a lot of familiar actors, which was great to see. And Blade: Trinity? Wow, that movie was stuffed with stars! You had Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson, of course, but also Jessica Biel, Parker Posey, even Triple H from WWE! Plus, it featured Ryan Reynolds and Dominic Purcell, both of whom went on to big things in the superhero world. Reynolds, famously, played Deadpool after starting as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins, and even tried out the Green Lantern role (though that didn’t quite stick). Purcell ended up as a main cast member on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It’s fun to look back and see all that talent in one place!
I was really bummed when Blade: Trinity seemed like the end of the movie franchise – even though there was a TV show, Blade: The Series, in 2006, it wasn’t great and Wesley Snipes wasn’t even playing Blade anymore! But thankfully, that wasn’t the final chapter. Marvel announced a Blade reboot back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali taking on the role. It’s been stuck in development for a while, but I was SO excited to see Wesley Snipes back as Blade in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine! It proves the character still has a lot of life left.
