HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry was a major success, drawing in a record number of viewers for its first episode. It also received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, making it a standout horror series and a well-received adaptation of Stephen King’s work. Following the finale in December, fans have been anticipating news about a second season, and now that news is here – though viewers will have to wait a bit longer for its arrival.
Andy and Barbara Muscietti, the creators of the new series IT: Welcome to Derry, recently told Collider that a second season is confirmed. However, they cautioned that it will likely be a while before HBO makes an official announcement or production begins.
Barbara Muschietti confirmed that plans are moving forward. Everyone involved, including the studio, is actively working to make it happen, but they need a solid story before it can become official.
Andy Muscietti explained that announcements can be delayed due to ongoing negotiations and other details. He didn’t want to share specifics, but confirmed there’s a general plan to move forward with it.
Barbara explained that studio announcements about a show often just signal their own need to express confidence. She believes their show doesn’t need that kind of reassurance because its success is already evident. When they officially move forward with a season, it’s a genuine commitment, not just a tentative attempt to get viewers. The audience has already proven the show is good and they’re watching it.
Season 2 of IT: Welcome to Derry Will Be The Most Important of the Franchise

Fans are excited about the second season of IT: Welcome to Derry, but the biggest news might be where the story is headed. While Season 1 explored Derry’s past in 1962, Season 2 will go even further back to 1935, introducing a completely new set of characters. Director Andy Muscietti has hinted that audiences will meet “The Bradley Gang.”
As fans may remember, Season 1 included a car containing victims from the infamous Bradley Gang shootout of 1935. This event involved the gang robbing stores in Derry, and when residents fought back, the entire gang was killed. Now, there’s a possibility this incident is connected to Pennywise, making a return to 1935 in Season 2 to explore it further particularly intriguing.
As a fan, I’m really excited about the show going back to 1935! We met Ingrid Kersh in the first season – she’s that creepy old woman Beverly encounters, and she’s connected to Pennywise. Because we already saw glimpses of her back then, revisiting that time period means we’ll get to learn so much more about her story and how it all ties into Pennywise’s terrifying pattern of resurfacing every 27 years. It’s a great way to deepen the mythology of the series.
