The movie ‘The Housemaid‘, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, was a big hit after it came out in late 2025.
The movie was a huge success, earning almost $400 million despite costing only $35 million to make. It also received widespread critical acclaim and quickly became a popular choice for fans of psychological thrillers.
Shortly after the movie came out in early 2026, a sequel was announced. Now, we’re finally learning more about it, including who will star alongside Sweeney.
Sydney Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie Calloway, the housemaid, in The Housemaid’s Secret. This new movie is based on Freida McFadden’s second book in the series of the same name.
Rebecca Sonnenshine, the writer, and Paul Feig, the director, of the 2025 film will both be back to work on the sequel, continuing in their original positions.
Deadline reports that Kirsten Dunst, an Academy Award nominee recently seen in the upcoming film Roofman with Channing Tatum, will be joining the cast alongside Sweeney.
Lionsgate president Erin Westerman announced that Kirsten Dunst will star in the next installment of The Housemaid. Westerman called Dunst an icon and said she will bring an exciting energy to the story, where appearances can be deceiving.

Deadline recently reported that Kiernan Shipka will be in the next Minecraft movie. This means the talented actress has a lot of work coming up in the next few months.
I’m really excited for ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ sequel, but we haven’t gotten a release date yet. Both of the main actors are super busy, so it might take a bit before we get more news. Still, the first movie did so well, I’m guessing Lionsgate wants to get filming started as soon as they can!
Recently, Amanda Seyfried hinted she might make a quick cameo in the upcoming sequel, despite her character, Nina, not being featured in the book it’s based on.
According to Ann Lee, they’re working on a solution because she believes the issue will be relatively minor. She shared this with Hits Radio UK.
Look, it’s possible things could have gone differently, but I really believe the movie’s fans will get why I’m involved – and I hope they’ll be happy about it! I think they’ll see the reasons and really enjoy what I bring to the project.
