Okay, so Horizon Forbidden West might also be playable on the PS4, but honestly, it’s one of the most stunning games I’ve ever seen on the PS5. There’s really no question about that – the graphics are incredible!
I was stoked to hear that Horizon Forbidden West finally got an update for the PS5’s low power mode! It’s cool that the developers listened to players, and it’s even better that it’s one of the first games to actually take advantage of the feature. Now I can save some energy while I’m exploring the world!
Sony introduced this feature late last year to help achieve its environmental goals of reaching net-zero emissions. However, some speculate it could also be a way for Sony to secretly prepare its software for a future handheld device, optimizing it to run smoothly on less powerful hardware before the device is even announced.
The update is being released now, and it’s still unknown exactly how much energy it will save. However, similar features usually work by lowering graphics settings – like resolution and frame rates – to improve performance.
We’re not quite clear on who’s benefiting from this, but while we definitely support saving energy, sacrificing performance for such a small reduction in power use seems strange.
This feature is available if you’d like to use it, and it now works with one of the most visually stunning games on the PS5.
