Actors from the popular shows Slow Horses and Last Tango in Halifax will appear in a new drama series created by comedian Sharon Horgan.
HBO’s new comedy series, YOUTH, will star Harriet Walter, Anne Reid, and Freddie Fox as the leads.
Sharon Horgan will not only write and produce the new series, but she’ll also be one of the stars. She’s known for co-creating and starring in the Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe with Rob Delaney, and for creating the popular BBC show Motherland.
YOUTH tells the story of a 50-year-old woman navigating divorce, caring for her elderly parents, and dealing with her adult son, all while trying to find love and intimacy.

Anne Reid is famous for two iconic television roles: Valerie Barlow in Coronation Street, which she played from 1961 to 1971, and Celia Dawson in Last Tango in Halifax (2012-2020). Her performance in Last Tango in Halifax earned her a nomination for a British Academy Television Award for best actress.
Dame Harriet Walter is a highly experienced actress with a career lasting over 50 years. Many know her for comedic roles, including her part in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. She’s also appeared in popular shows like Succession and Silo.
Freddie Fox is well-known for his roles in House of the Dragon and Slow Horses, but he’s also showcased his comedic side in shows like The Great on Apple TV+ and Year of the Rabbit on Channel 4.
The new series, YOUTH, comes from Merman, the production company behind shows like Amandaland and Bad Sisters. Sharon Horgan co-founded Merman in 2014 with Clelia Mountford. Faye Dorn (for Merman), Jim Kleverweis, and Dawn Shadforth, who is also directing, are additional executive producers on the project.
Sharon Horgan is an award-winning comedian, having been nominated for seven BAFTAs and winning two. She won Best Drama Series for ‘Bad Sisters’ in 2023 and Best Writer: Comedy for ‘Catastrophe’ in 2016.
