Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time is a hugely popular fantasy series, originally consisting of 14 novels. It’s now expanded into other formats, including a live-action TV show from Amazon MGM Studios, and there are plans for an animated series as well. Most recently, the world of The Wheel of Time has entered the gaming sphere, and it’s being created by a major game development studio.
The latest game in the Wheel of Time series is called War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time. It’s a two-player game where you can choose to save the world or destroy it. The game is being created by Dire Wolf, the studio behind popular titles like Dune: Imperium and Clank!, and you can check out the first trailer and images below.
What Is War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time?

In War of the Dragon, players fight to determine the world’s fate through a combination of building a personal display of cards, collecting sets, and controlling areas on the game board. You’ll manage your own resources, but also compete with others for dominance across the board, with the specific rules changing depending on the game mode you choose.

War of the Dragon will offer two ways to play. Hero Mode is designed for beginners and lets you command individual heroes – there are currently eight planned, including Rand Al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn. Epic Mode is more challenging, allowing you to control entire armies throughout the game.
No matter how you decide to play, the game’s story covers a huge chunk of the Wheel of Time timeline – it starts right after the Battle of the Two Rivers in The Shadow Rising and goes all the way to the epic Last Battle. You’ll definitely run into a lot of characters I already know and love! We’ve already seen cards featuring folks like Sheriam Byanar, Juilin Sandar, Bayle Domon, Herid Fel, Gaul, and even Bain and Chiad, and trust me, that’s just scratching the surface of who you’ll meet and team up with during the game.

The board game War of the Dragon is coming to Kickstarter later this year. If you sign up for updates before the campaign begins, you’ll receive two exclusive promo cards – Hopper He Who Soars and Bela Loyal Steed – with every copy you pledge for. You can find more information on the official website.
