With so many shows available on streaming services, it’s tough for any one program to really stand out. That’s why when a show does become popular, it’s a major event. While services like Netflix and Prime Video get a lot of viewers, HBO still excels at creating those must-see shows that everyone is discussing.
HBO Max made a big impact in 2026 with the successful launch of the Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, they’re streaming what many consider to be one of the year’s best new shows, and after only two seasons, it has the potential to be a dominant force on television for a long time.
HBO Max’s The Pitt Is The New King of TV

Season 2 of The Pitt has been streaming on HBO Max weekly since January 8, 2026, and will finish with its fifteenth episode on April 16th. Similar to Season 1, each episode is presented as a live, hour-long look inside a busy trauma center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – a city known for its excellent doctors and medical professionals. Following a strong debut last year, The Pitt is once again a hit, topping the charts with its new season.
The show is performing exceptionally well, attracting almost twice as many viewers as recent HBO releases like Jason Bateman’s DTF St. Louis and Steve Carell’s The Rooster. It’s also more popular than several international hits, including Like Water for Chocolate and La Promesa. In fact, The Pitt has become so popular that it surpassed even Netflix’s Heated Rivalry – a huge hit that captured the public’s attention – to become the most-watched streaming show overall.
As of the latest episode of The Pitt, Season 2, Episode 11, titled “5:00 pm,” major events have unfolded. (Minor spoilers ahead!) An unexpected inspection by ICE caused widespread panic within the hospital, ultimately leading to an arrest when someone tried to help a patient. Robby (Noah Wyle) discovered he’s unable to leave the Pitt until he gets information about a friend’s medical condition. Meanwhile, one doctor was caught using medication unethically by a colleague, and a nurse found herself in grave danger when a patient woke up during sedation and began to choke her.
Things are escalating rapidly on The Pitt, suggesting the second half of Season 2 (Episodes 12-15) will be filled with intense drama and potentially heartbreaking events. Season 2 captures the fast-paced, chaotic reality of an emergency room more convincingly than ever before, establishing The Pitt as a more authentic portrayal than shows like ER and Grey’s Anatomy, which tend to focus on melodramatic storylines and relationships.
