Netflix has now tapped former Percy Jackson actor to lead its upcoming fantasy reboot.
As reported by Deadline, Logan Lerman will join the cast of Netflix’s remake of 13 Going on 30, alongside the original star, Jennifer Garner, who will also serve as an executive producer. Garner famously played Jenna Rink in the 2004 film – a teenager who magically becomes 30 years old. Lerman will play Matty, Jenna’s childhood friend and eventual love interest. The original 13 Going on 30 was a popular blend of fantasy and romance, showing that becoming an adult isn’t always easy or what you expect.
Brett Haley is set to direct the upcoming project, bringing him back together with Jennifer Bader. Sources say they were excited to work together again after their successful collaboration on a Netflix film and saw this reboot of 13 Going on 30 as the ideal chance. From the beginning, they also had their sights set on Dylan Lerman to play the romantic lead opposite Bader.
Hannah Marks, known for her work on films like Mark, Mary, & Some Other People and After Everything, will write the script for the reboot. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will produce through RK Films, with Jennifer Garner as executive producer alongside Donna Roth and Susan Arnold. Marks will also produce, along with Scott Hemming from Revolution Studios and Alyssa Altman from RK Films.
In a statement to Deadline, Haley called 13 Going on 30 “one of those rare, perfect films.”
This show is funny, heartwarming, and genuinely relatable, featuring fantastic performances by Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer. As a longtime fan of the original, I felt a lot of pressure when taking on this updated version. It’s particularly special that Jennifer Garner, who was so central to the success of the first series, is also an executive producer on this one.
I’m thrilled to be working with Emily Bader again, after enjoying our time on ‘People We Meet on Vacation.’ She has fantastic chemistry with Logan Lerman – they’re a wonderful pair. It’s a real honor to be entrusted with a story that’s so beloved by so many.
A release date for the 13 Going on 30 reboot has not yet been announced.
