Game of Thrones favourite stars in first look at BBC’s all-new Charles Dickens adaptation

The BBC has shared the first photos from its upcoming adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, which stars Kit Harington.

Kit Harington, best known for his role as Jon Snow in the popular series Game of Thrones, will star as Sydney Carton in the show.

This new show is based on the classic 1859 novel by Charles Dickens. It’s set in the 1700s, a time of conflict between France and Britain, and filled with dramatic tension.

The story centers on Lucie Manette, portrayed by Mirren Mack (known for her roles in The Nest and Sex Education), whose world is turned upside down when she learns her father – believed to have died nearly two decades ago – might still be alive, following a message from Paris.

Charles Darnay, a French immigrant with strong beliefs, played by François Civil, is arrested and accused of betraying his country.

Lucie asks a remarkably clever, though unpredictable, young lawyer named Sydney Carton (Harington) to help free Darnay, hoping he will then take her to Paris so she can find her father.

Lucie finds herself at the center of a complicated love triangle involving both Darnay and Carton. Both men strive to win her affection, leaving Lucie conflicted about who she should choose.

This limited series, consisting of four episodes, is written by Daniel West (known for his work on Gunpowder and Top Boy) and directed by Richard Clark (Outlander). It’s a production of Federation Stories, in partnership with Federation Studio France and Thriker Films, created for MGM+ and the BBC.

Harington was most recently seen in the latest season of Industry.

A Tale of Two Cities’ release date will be announced at a later date.
