If you thought the player response to Tekken 8 Season 2 was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Honestly, the very negative reaction to Season 3, which just came out, is similar to the problems we saw with Season 2. It seems like the issues are continuing.
Many dedicated and professional players were upset after Season 2 significantly disrupted the game’s fairness and balance, and they were calling for changes.
Over the following weeks and months, Bandai Namco released several quick fixes, but they avoided making major changes to the game while the Tekken World Tour was happening.
Players were hoping Season 3 would fix the problems with the previous season, but so far, the update has actually hurt Tekken 8’s standing with fans.
Ultimately, Season 3 doesn’t really undo the changes made in Season 2, even though it was promoted as a return to simpler gameplay.
The Heat’s fast-paced, aggressive style of play became overly dominant in Season 2. While Season 3 improved things somewhat, allowing for longer attack combinations in specific instances, it didn’t deliver the major overhaul many players wanted.
Season 3 has some odd balance changes. While many players agree that certain characters needed to be toned down, others have been unexpectedly boosted, and their gameplay has been changed in confusing ways.
Once again, the response has been overwhelmingly negative, and we’re now seeing a surge of critical reviews from users on platforms like Steam.
Things aren’t looking good, and many Tekken 8 fans are losing confidence in the developers. The main issue is that the marketing for Seasons 2 and 3 promised features and gameplay that haven’t actually been delivered, leading to a lot of disappointment.
Since the release of Season 2 last year, players have consistently asked for Tekken to feel more like its classic versions. They want to see a stronger focus on defensive play, such as sidestepping, and reliable ways to counter specific moves.
It’s now obvious that Bandai Namco is sticking to its plan for Tekken 8: a game centered around overwhelming opponents with constant attacks and forcing them to make difficult, risky choices.
It will be fascinating to see how the game’s developer addresses the current criticism. Tekken 8 has faced a lot of negative feedback for over a year, and rebuilding trust with players will require significant work.
