The tenth season of Scrubs has been surprisingly good! It successfully blends the charm of the original series with a modern feel, avoiding a simple rehash of past moments. Seeing where characters like J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are now has been consistently enjoyable, and sometimes unexpected. Episode 5, “My Angel,” stands out as a particularly strong episode in terms of balancing the old and new, and it hints at the direction the season is taking.
This episode follows J.D. as he cautiously re-enters the dating world after his divorce from Elliot. He goes on a date to a local bar with Lily, the hospital harpist, where a drink leads to a revealing memory. While Lily is interested in taking things further, J.D. suddenly remembers a cozy night with Elliot – a flashback to the episode where their relationship first began (and quickly fizzled out) – reminding him of their early connection.
J.D. & Elliot Getting Back Together Is Inevitable (But Scrubs Can’t Rush It)

Okay, so that whole flashback sequence? It really drove home that J.D. is still clearly in love with Elliot. Honestly, it wasn’t a shock considering how long they were together and how much deeper his feelings went. Plus, they have kids together now – the show made it clear he has two! It just makes it impossible for him to move on and date other people. And it seems Elliot’s not rushing into anything either, though by the end of the episode, she seemed a little more open to the idea of dating again.
It seems the ultimate aim of the show is to reunite J.D. and Elliot—though not necessarily right away. The decision to reveal their divorce in season 10 was a daring move, but a clever one. It prevents the revival from simply replaying old favorites and instead allows for a more meaningful continuation, showing how these characters have evolved with age and how life often takes unexpected turns.
As a long-time fan, I’m really enjoying seeing how they’re exploring a different side of these characters now. Seeing them co-parent while separated feels so real, especially for those of us who grew up with the show. It adds a layer of depth, even though it makes revisiting their old romantic tension a little sad, knowing how things ultimately turned out. Honestly, it feels like all this is building towards them eventually finding their way back together, and I’m here for it!
J.D. and Elliot truly belong together. Considering everything they’ve been through, both in the original series and the revival, it would be disheartening if they didn’t end up together. While a realistic, bittersweet ending is possible, Scrubs has the opportunity to give fans what they want by carefully and thoughtfully rebuilding their relationship. The show is fundamentally optimistic and heartwarming, so it would be unexpected if they didn’t reunite, whether it’s by the end of the current season, in a potential Season 11, or even further in the future. The show’s earlier seasons hinted at this possibility.
New episodes of Scrubs release on Wednesdays on Hulu.
