Prime Video Is About To Stream All 6 Seasons of One of the Most Groundbreaking Sitcoms in TV History

Sometimes a TV show changes everything, and a classic ’70s sitcom is about to do just that when it starts streaming on Prime Video. Amazon Prime Video has been adding lots of new shows this month, and March 25th will be a fantastic day for TV fans. That’s when all six seasons of this groundbreaking and still-funny sitcom will become available.

Starting March 25th, all 133 episodes of the classic sitcom Good Times will be available to stream on Prime Video. Created by Eric Monte and Mike Evans and produced by television legend Norman Lear, the show has a unique history: it began as a spin-off from Maude, which itself was a spin-off of All in the Family. Good Times originally aired on CBS from 1974 to 1979 and followed the Evans family – Florida, James, and their children J.J., Thelma, and Michael – as they navigated the challenges of living in a Chicago housing project and striving for a better life.

Norman Lear’s Good Times Redefined TV

Sitcoms often reflect and influence our culture, and Good Times was a prime example. It was groundbreaking as the first TV show to focus on a Black family and feature an entirely Black cast. While funny, and famous for J.J.’s catchphrase “Dy-no-mite!,” the show was more than just typical sitcom entertainment. Good Times honestly portrayed the lives of many Black Americans in the 1970s, tackling tough issues like poverty, unfair systems, and the difficulties of life in a Chicago housing project.

As a lifelong movie and TV buff, I’ve always seen Good Times as something truly special. It wasn’t just funny, it was groundbreaking – a show that proved Black stories deserved to be on network TV and could really connect with audiences. It basically opened the door for so many other Black families we’ve seen on television ever since. The way it mixed serious issues with laugh-out-loud comedy, plus those unforgettable characters and catchphrases, made it a real cultural moment. And it still holds up! These days, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with critics loving it, and it consistently shows up on ‘best of’ lists – not just for sitcoms, but for all TV shows. It even got a brief revival attempt on Netflix in 2024, though sadly, that reboot only lasted one season.

What’s New on Prime Video?

Prime Video has a lot of great shows and movies to watch this March! New series like Young Sherlock and Scarpetta have already premiered, and the popular superhero show Invincible is back with its fourth season. More shows are coming on March 25th, including classics like All In The Family, Married… With Children, The Shield, and The Winter King. Movie fans can enjoy films like Airport, both versions of Carrie, Resident Evil, and The Place Beyond The Pines.
