
The latest phase of Godzilla comics by IDW, known as the Kai-Sei era, has made an explosive debut, introducing fresh kaiju that fans are eager to discover more about. With the King of Monsters, things seem to be looking promising at IDW Publishing. This new chapter begins tomorrow, July 23rd, with Godzilla #1 by Tim Seeley, Nikola Čižmešija, Francesco Segala, and Nathan Widick. IDW refers to this shared comic book universe as the Kai-Sei era, filled with fresh mythology, designs, plot twists, characters, and much more. Due to high demand for Godzilla #1, IDW is reprinting the first issue.
Get an exclusive first look at the cover for the second printing of Godzilla #1, hitting shelves September 10th! Pre-orders must be placed by August 4th. This captivating cover, designed by series artist Nikola Čižmešija, showcases Lament, a brand-new talking kaiju debuting in issue #1. Lament looms over a city, and a glimpse of Godzilla can be seen reflected in the glass windows of a building. “We’re bound together, you and I, in a tragic cycle of Lament,” the kaiju ominously states.

In the pages of Godzilla #1, fans will encounter one of a few fresh characters. This comic has broken records for Godzilla sales at IDW, amassing over 80,000 orders. Due to heightened demand, IDW is releasing a second printing, which is great for fans eager to grab a copy. ComicBook awarded Godzilla #1 a perfect 5/5 star rating and praised the comic, stating that its “supporting cast and premise are intriguing enough to captivate both new and long-time fans.
In addition to the current Godzilla shared universe, there are two new titles joining the roster. One is “Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone,” penned by Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan (nominees for the prestigious Eisner Award, known for their work on “Kill Your Darlings”) along with artist Pablo Tunica, who has contributed to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Another exciting addition is “Starship Godzilla,” written by Chris Gooch (award-winning author of “In Utero”) in collaboration with Oliver Ono, renowned for his work on “Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp.
