Stephen King Reviews Hulu’s “Rare” Sci-Fi Thriller After Season 3 Renewal

Stephen King reviews Hulu’s Paradise and explains why the show is “rare.”

Created by Dan Fogelman, the sci-fi thriller Paradise first aired in January 2025 and immediately won over both critics and audiences. Season 2 premiered in February 2026 and continued this success, taking the story beyond the confines of the bunker as Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) searches for his wife, Teri Rogers-Collins (Enuka Okuma). On March 17th, news broke that the show would return for a third season, with Brown announcing the renewal in a video that mirrored a memorable scene from season 2 featuring the character Link (Thomas Doherty) outside the bunker.

Stephen King recently shared his thoughts on Paradise season 2 on Threads, calling it even better than the first season. He noted that it’s unusual for a show to improve, and praised the performances, the well-connected storyline, the realistic dialogue, and its originality. He even suggested the series’ writer, Elmore Leonard, would have approved. You can read King’s full review below.

Paradise on Hulu really shines. The first season is strong, but the second season is even better – which is a rare treat for TV shows! The acting is solid, the plot is well-constructed, and the dialogue is particularly impressive – it’s witty, avoids tired tropes, and feels like something Elmore Leonard himself would enjoy.

Fogelman was thrilled with the positive review from King, sharing a screenshot on Instagram and joking that he was ‘floored’ by it. Critics generally agree with King’s assessment – Rotten Tomatoes shows season 2 is even better than the first. Season 1 earned an 86% approval rating, while season 2 currently has a score of 90%. In a review for ScreenRant, Graeme Guttmann gave the new season seven out of ten stars, praising the show for rising above its initial problems and remaining one of the most exciting series on TV.

Beyond the performance of Jonathan King, the first season of Paradise received significant recognition from the Emmy Awards, earning four nominations. These included nods for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as acting nominations for Brown (Lead Actor), James Marsden (Supporting Actor), and Julianne Nicholson (Supporting Actress). King’s mention of Leonard likely stems from the author’s reputation for strong dialogue, a key strength of the show according to the review.

Stephen King has a habit of sharing his opinions on new shows online, and he’s done it before with series like Silo on Apple TV+, Alien: Earth on FX, Stranger Things on Netflix, and the horror show From. His review actually helped boost the popularity of From when it was first released. Paradise was already well-regarded, but King’s latest review adds even more buzz as the show approaches the end of its second season and looks forward to a third.

The final episode of Paradise season 2 will be available on March 30th. Filming for season 3 will start soon after, beginning on April 7th, according to creator Dan Fogelman. The show’s team has consistently stated they’ve planned a three-season arc, suggesting the story is approaching its conclusion. This fast production schedule ensures the series will continue to return yearly, as it did with the first two seasons.

Paradise releases new episodes Mondays on Hulu.
