Matt Lauer is making a rare public appearance.
Former Today show host Matt Lauer was seen in public with his girlfriend, Shamin Abas, in Sag Harbor, New York. This was the first time the journalist has been publicly spotted since Brooke Nevils released a memoir last month, in which she detailed allegations of a sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2014.
On March 23rd, Matt wore a gray zip-up jacket, jeans, white sneakers, and a navy hat. Shamin, a public relations executive, paired a forest green coat with navy pants and brown boots, and linked arms with Matt.
Matt, 68, and his partner have generally kept their relationship private since they started dating in late 2019, not long after his divorce from Annette Roque was finalized. He shares three children with Annette: Jack, 24, Romy, 22, and Thijs, 19.
As a lifestyle observer, I’ve been following the story of Matt and Shamin, who are both 56. The last time they were seen publicly was at a classic car event in Bridgehampton, New York, back in September 2024. Before that, they attended Don Lemon’s wedding in New York earlier that same year.
Last year, my partner and I had a special night out – we were wandering around the Upper East Side in New York City, doing a little shopping. It was a really lovely, rare moment for us!
In 2017, NBC News fired the anchor after allegations of sexual misconduct. Then-chairman Andy Lack stated the behavior was considered inappropriate and suggested it wasn’t the first time such issues had arisen.

Matt issued an apology to those he had harmed, acknowledging that while not all of the claims against him were accurate, there was enough truth to them that he felt embarrassed and ashamed.
After Brooke alleged in Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book, Catch and Kill, that Matt had sexually assaulted her during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, he stated that their encounter was entirely consensual and involved mutual participation.
In a 2019 letter published in Variety, Matt responded to a claim made in a new book. The book alleges that a past consensual sexual encounter he’d previously admitted to was actually an assault. Matt firmly denied this, stating it was untrue, inaccurate, and illogical.
