Howie Mandel, Kelly Ripa Have Eyebrow-Raising Exchange on Live

Howie Mandel won’t deal with false flattery. 

Kelly Ripa received some criticism after telling America’s Got Talent judge, who recently turned 70, that she couldn’t understand how well he was aging.

During the March 24th episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Howie questioned someone by saying, “What do you mean it doesn’t make any sense?”

Clarifying Kelly’s point, her cohost Mark Consuelos added, “You look great.”

But the Deal or No Deal host didn’t take the couple’s praise as a compliment necessarily.   

“That’s meaningless,” Howie stated, cutting in and pointing. “No, that doesn’t work. It’s a qualification—like when you tell someone you’re seventy and they say, ‘You look great—’”

Kelly quickly added, “We didn’t mean to imply you just look good for your age.”

Howie quickly jumped in, saying, “You’re looking fantastic, and you definitely don’t look 70!” Kelly then added, “That’s right, you look great, and I don’t believe you’re seventy years old.”

Meanwhile, Mark stood ten toes down on the statement, saying over the pair, “I am saying that.”

But the Here’s the Deal: Don’t Touch Me author insisted the flattery was backhanded.

I was really struck by what he said – it was so insightful! He put it perfectly when he joked about how it’s like saying, ‘You’re smart for a stupid person.’ It just hit me because it’s that backhanded compliment thing, you know? He then added, almost shyly, that he doesn’t feel like he presents well, saying ‘Oh, you look smart, you seem smart…’ and it felt so relatable. It really made the audience laugh, but it also felt honest.

But Mark wasn’t budging on the compliment.

“No, you do look good,” he said. “You look good.”

Howie, who shares three grown children – Jackie, 39, Alex, 33, and Riley, 31 – with his wife Terry Mandel, playfully admitted he couldn’t help but enjoy the compliments. He joked, “To be serious for a moment, I really am gorgeous.”

Howie wasn’t going to leave his co-hosts wondering about his good looks. He revealed that he’s stayed in great shape over the years by working out with his friend, Jerry O’Connell.

He explained his unique swimming routine: ‘I swim, but here’s the catch…’ He described swimming in place for an hour using cables and resistance paddles, effectively staying still while working out.

He added, “It’s really good.”

Even though the conversation between Howie, Kelly, and Mark is now in the past, there were other situations that weren’t so easily resolved. Keep reading to learn more.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that actor Topher Grace was the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a very rude and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed annoyed when he was a guest on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?’ She responded sharply, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I’ll completely overwhelm you.’ She essentially warned him, ‘You have no idea who you’re talking to.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean. This followed a post Brittany shared on Instagram on August 23rd, where she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Cameron Bure publicly apologized, saying she regretted hurting Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and was truly sorry for not taking the picture.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday movies, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to many people.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art from her band Hole for a promotional image without proper credit. Olivia responded with a supportive message, saying, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me if you’d like the details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained the reason for his difficult relationship with the Forrest Gump star while filming their 1989 movie, Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, as I had everything I needed with me, he said.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along famously. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said, “we hit it off great.”

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick. 

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills probably remembers Lauren’s famous line from the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt. It really exploded when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor that she had made a sex tape with her boyfriend at the time, Jason Wahler.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017, starting with an Instagram post by Tyrese complaining about the delay of Fast & Furious 9 until April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced, scheduled for 2019. The next month, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson was still involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the long-standing conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken to Johnson directly, though they plan to. He did mention having a conversation with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations he’d heard from others connected to the franchise. He explained he was the one who spoke out, which he acknowledges was a mistake, calling it unprofessional and inappropriate.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry famously had a long-running feud, rumored to be the inspiration behind Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which began with disagreements over a dancer and during their respective concert tours, ended when Perry sent Swift an olive branch as a peace offering before Swift’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared in an Instagram video that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and subsequently made comments about her co-star that many found surprising.

In September 2017, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only ever been coworkers, not friends.

She was deeply upset, saying she felt heartbroken. They had talked about it all week, and she found it really disturbing because her memory of what happened was completely different.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously told the audience, “Madonna, best live act? Absolutely not!” He then questioned her use of lip-syncing, stating that performers who lip-sync during paid concerts should face serious consequences.

The actress, formerly known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award consideration. She explained that she didn’t believe the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was a little hurtful, but not entirely unexpected. “When people show you their true colors, you should believe it,” Shonda explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s helped me a lot over the years.”

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had reportedly liked, and then quickly unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s skills as a mother – something Nicki claims she didn’t do.

As a mom, my daughter always comes first. I had a huge tour lined up with Bruno Mars that could have been incredibly profitable, but I made the decision to put it on hold to be there for her. I truly believe I’m a great mom, and it really bothered me when people criticized my choices. Honestly, opportunities like meeting other artists just don’t happen every day – you can’t plan to run into someone at the grocery store or on the street! I prioritize what’s important to me, and that’s being a present mom.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 following the release of Kanye’s song “Famous,” which included a reference to Taylor.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for the move, and Taylor didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

As a longtime fan, I remember when all the talk about a rivalry between Mariah and Jennifer Lopez really took off. It happened during a German TV interview back in 2003. Mariah was asked what she thought of a few different singers, and when Jennifer’s name came up, she just said, “I don’t know her.” It seemed so simple, but the media really ran with it and it became this whole thing!
