Good news for Prime Video subscribers: all episodes of a truly great TV drama are now available to stream! Amazon Prime Video has been adding a lot of new shows and movies lately, and on March 25th, they added this complete series – all 88 episodes – to their already growing library.
Many TV fans consider FX’s The Shield to be one of the greatest dramas ever made. All seven seasons—a total of 88 episodes—are now available to stream on Prime Video, having been added to the platform on March 25th. Created by Shawn Ryan, the popular crime series originally aired on FX from 2002 to 2008. It stars Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey, a flawed Los Angeles detective who leads a special unit that often bends the rules to fight crime.
The Shield Is a 10/10 Crime Drama That Still Holds Up Today
As a huge fan, I think what really made The Shield special was how morally grey everything was. Before this show, cops on TV were always these perfect heroes, but The Shield flipped that on its head. Vic Mackey wasn’t a good guy – he was corrupt, violent, and often worse than the criminals he was after – but he got results. It totally redefined what we expected from a lead character and, honestly, opened the door for shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. But it wasn’t just Mackey; the show constantly made you question whether the ends really did justify the means. Even characters like Dutch Wagenbach, who tried to do the right thing, were flawed, and the whole strike team operated in a really shady way, using illegal tactics to fight crime. It was just brilliant storytelling.
Beyond its thought-provoking themes and realistic portrayal of life, The Shield is a brilliant example of how to tell a story. Over seven seasons, the show consistently delivered compelling, unpredictable storylines that kept viewers hooked, culminating in a truly memorable series finale. Critics and audiences alike loved it, as evidenced by its consistently high Rotten Tomatoes scores – averaging 90% from critics and 96% from viewers – and never receiving a negative rating for any season.
