Even while dealing with the unimaginable, Savannah Guthrie is trying to stay strong for her children.
After almost two months of searching for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who went missing from her Arizona home on January 31st, Savannah has spoken about how the situation has affected her children, Vale (11) and Charley (9), and her husband, Mike Feldman.
She told Hoda Kotb on Today that it’s difficult being a parent because you naturally want to shield your children from harm. She shared that her son, Vale, would constantly ask for updates, repeatedly questioning, ‘Mom, have you found anything out? Is there any good news?’
She went on to say that they attempt to communicate with those affected, hoping to offer some reassurance and prevent prolonged suffering.
She knows she’s not alone in this situation, as her sister Annie Guthrie, Annie’s husband Tomasso Cioni, and their son Olmo were the primary caregivers for Nancy.
Savannah explained that her neighbors were a constant source of support for her mother, visiting daily. They allowed her mom to remain in the family home she cherished. Savannah believes her mother stayed there because it held so many precious memories of her father and their life together.
He stressed that this situation is even more painful for those involved, especially considering everything they’ve already endured.
It was particularly upsetting for Savannah to encounter suggestions that her sister, her sister’s husband (whose house was searched as part of the investigation), or her brother Camron Guthrie might have been connected to the kidnapping.

It’s just… too much. The grief is overwhelming, and it feels like one hurt keeps adding to another. I honestly can’t find the words to describe it. I keep replaying everything in my head, trying to make sense of it, but I just can’t. My mom was so loved, and my sister and her husband were incredible to her – they took such amazing care of her. And my brother? He was her fierce protector, always looking out for her. It’s just… heartbreaking.
“We love her and she is our shining light,” she added. “She is our matriarch. She is all we have.”

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Nancy, age 84, was reported missing on February 1st after a friend noticed she hadn’t been at church that morning and alerted her family, police said. Her children searched her property for about an hour before contacting authorities and filing a missing person report around noon.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained how the initial investigation, involving homicide detectives, took place at her home.
I was really struck by what the authorities said in the press conference on February 2nd. They explained that they don’t usually involve the sheriff in situations like this one, but what they discovered inside the house was deeply troubling. It wasn’t just the initial reports, but what they actually found at the scene that made this case stand out – it was something they hadn’t expected.
As a lifestyle expert who often consults with various teams, I can tell you this situation was definitely unusual. Normally, our homicide team only gets involved when there’s a death, a body to investigate. This time, however, they were called in solely based on the information our surveyors brought to light – it was a really atypical request, honestly.

After looking into the situation, officials stated they thought a crime had happened at Nancy’s house.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have identified a crime scene after processing the location. He asked for the public’s help, noting that the community has always been supportive in solving difficult cases and he hopes they will assist again.
The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had trouble getting around – she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own – which led him to suspect something wasn’t right about her disappearance.
He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the location suggests something else happened.”

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she needs daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under their care is facing health problems and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.
We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything, please get in touch. Call 911. We need your help to prevent another tragedy.
Although Nancy has faced some health challenges, Dr. Nanos highlighted that her thinking and mental skills remain sharp.
According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this isn’t related to dementia. She’s very sharp and aware. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.
Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and supportive messages we’ve received,” she shared on February 2nd in an interview with NBC’s morning show. “Our top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the case and asked anyone with information to please reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Okay, so when Savannah Guthrie announced her mom, Nancy, was missing, my heart just broke for her! And honestly, seeing her Today show family immediately rally around her on air? It was everything. They just showed how much they care, and it was so heartwarming to watch, even though it’s such a scary situation. I’m just sending all the good vibes to Savannah and her family right now.
Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she and Nancy are close, saying, “I know her personally.”
She continued, saying they were deeply thinking of Savannah and her family, and sending their prayers to them all.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.
She said the show’s request for viewers to help with the investigation – even with seemingly minor details – really highlighted the strength of their community. She felt it was a perfect example of everyone coming together.
She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”
Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.
On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the sheriff’s department’s phone number, stating that she was missing.
Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, responded to the surprising announcement by sharing a heartwarming picture of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a brief Instagram post on February 2nd, Hoda included only a red heart and praying hands emoji in the caption.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be concerned for their safety.
At a press conference on February 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that he didn’t believe there was an immediate danger, but emphasized that the investigation was ongoing and much work remained.
Savannah hasn’t been on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to make sure she’s okay.
I heard directly from the sheriff, and he told me they’ve been talking to her. Apparently, she has a security team that’s been keeping them updated all night, but they’re not ruling anything out just yet – they’re covering all their bases, which is good to hear.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.
I just heard the latest, and it’s terrifying! The Sheriff’s Office thinks she was taken from her house, maybe even while she was sleeping! They’re saying it could be a kidnapping, or an abduction… I’m so worried, I can barely breathe. They’re really looking into it as if someone forced her away, and it’s just awful. I’m praying they find her safe.

After reports surfaced that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing that she believes in the power of prayer, the strength of people coming together with love and hope, and the inherent goodness of humanity. Most importantly, she expressed her belief in God.
Savannah continued, expressing gratitude for everyone’s prayers for her mother, Nancy, whom she described as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person. She asked for continued prayers, believing they would provide comfort and strength to Nancy right now.
She added, “we need you.”
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, “He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.” She added that it’s a timeless message for everyone.
Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.
We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
Two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos held a press conference to explain what happened leading up to her disappearance.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., just about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t have a paid subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the recording.
The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, at 11:56 a.m., her family found she was missing, and they called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten minutes after that, he explained that when their patrol teams arrive at a scene, they immediately begin responding by deploying search and rescue, as well as detectives from different units.

It was heartbreaking on February 4th. My friends Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they’d written – letters meant for their mom, Nancy, and whoever might be holding her. They were just begging for her safe return, pouring their hearts out in those letters. It was so tough to watch.
In a video posted to Instagram, the family spokesperson said they’re doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. However, they’re concerned about misinformation and need solid proof that their loved one is still alive and in the custody of those who have her.
She explained, ‘My mom is the center of our world, our safe place.’ She’s very frail and constantly in pain, and unfortunately, she doesn’t have the medication she desperately needs to manage her condition and live comfortably. It’s essential for her health and well-being that she gets the treatment she needs to avoid suffering.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication and need to establish a way to connect so we can start resolving this.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake texts as part of a scheme to make money, which Janke described as a complete fraud. Authorities are also investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ and are taking the threat very seriously. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted another video on Instagram suggesting they’d received a response to a previous request.
Oh my gosh, she finally spoke! I saw the video, and it just broke my heart. She was holding Camron and Annie’s hands, and she said they just want their mom back so they can all be happy together. She literally begged whoever has her to bring her home, saying it’s the only way they’ll ever find peace. I’m seriously losing it watching this, I just want them to be reunited!
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

Investigators shared surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case on February 10th.
Footage from a security camera on Nancy’s property shows a person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking toward her home. The video then appears to show the individual punching the camera, which police found broken when they arrived.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been collaborating with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images or videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort was necessary because recording devices had been removed. They were able to recover the video from data still stored within the systems’ background processes, as stated in a release to TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.
According to the FBI’s Phoenix office, the suspect is a man between 5’9” and 5’10” tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack that holds about 25 liters.
The FBI is now offering up to $100,000 – an increase from $50,000 – for information that helps them find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

It’s been over two weeks since Nancy disappeared, and I was really relieved to finally hear Sheriff Nanos address who the authorities are looking at as potential persons of interest. It’s good they’re finally sharing some information about the investigation, even if it’s just a preliminary list.
In a statement on February 16th, investigators confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all brothers, sisters, and their spouses – have been ruled out as suspects. They emphasized the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves considered victims in this situation.

Investigators determined the gloves discovered close to Nancy’s house didn’t match the rest of the evidence in the case.
On March 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated to local NBC affiliate KVOA that, around three weeks after discovering a pair of gloves with DNA about two miles from her home, investigators initially and strongly believed the gloves were related to a restaurant.
Although some people noticed the gloves in the doorbell footage looked similar to those worn by the suspect, Nanos dismissed this as just a guess. Investigators had already identified the gloves’ owner—an employee at a local restaurant—and confirmed they weren’t connected to the crime.
