Remaster of 2003 PS2 and Xbox Classic Coming to Switch and Switch 2 Next Week

A popular game originally released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2003 is coming to both Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2 next week, on March 31st. It was previously released on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox One & Series X earlier this month. While originally planned for a March 3rd release alongside those other platforms, the Switch versions were delayed. Now, Nintendo players will be able to experience this 23-year-old game for $24.99.

On March 31st, a remastered version of Legacy of Kain: Defiance will become available on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Originally released in 2003 by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Interactive, this is the fifth and final game in the Legacy of Kain series. Notably, the original game was directed by Amy Hennig, who later created the Uncharted series. Both the original and the remaster have received generally positive reviews, with scores ranging from 69 to 76 on Metacritic.

What’s New With the Remaster

This isn’t a complete reimagining of the 2003 game, but a remastered version, meaning the core gameplay remains the same with updated features. Those updates include sharper graphics, improved controls, and a more modern camera perspective. Players who miss the original look can easily switch back to the classic graphics. The remaster also adds a photo mode, new character skins, and a way to explore the game’s backstory. Most excitingly, it includes content and levels that were originally cut from the 2003 release.

Players on any Nintendo Switch model – including the standard, Lite, OLED, and even the upcoming Switch 2 – can expect to spend around 10 hours playing the remastered game when it’s released on the eShop next week. Keep in mind this is just an estimate, and your playtime might be a bit shorter or longer.
