If you’re even a little bit into science fiction, you’ve probably heard of The Expanse. This popular book series and TV show is now considered one of the best in the genre, so it’s a perfect fit for a video game. Telltale Games actually made a The Expanse game a few years ago, and now Owlcat Games is developing a new action RPG called The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. We just learned when it’s coming out, and got a first look at gameplay!
Owlcat Games revealed a new trailer for their sci-fi action RPG, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, during today’s Xbox Partner Showcase, giving fans a detailed look at gameplay. They also announced the game will be released in Spring 2027 and that a Closed Beta will be available soon, allowing players to try it out early. While we first heard about the game back in 2025, this is the most substantial update fans have received since then.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Shows off New Gameplay Trailer
The new gameplay trailer reveals more of the game’s story through cinematics and introduces some important characters. It also gives a first look at how Osiris Reborn will play. Combat is a tactical, third-person shooter, similar to Mass Effect, with a focus on gunfights, grenades, and using cover to stay alive.
We’ve gotten a first look at how conversations will work in Osiris Reborn. Like other Owlcat games, building strong relationships with your companions is central to the experience. You’ll interact with six different crew members, taking two with you on each mission to help in combat. The others will remain on your ship, providing support from there. Importantly, the choices you make in conversations – with both companions and other characters – will have consequences that affect missions and even the entire universe.
If you’re looking forward to The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, here’s the latest: the full game won’t be released until Spring 2027. However, Owlcat will be holding a Closed Beta next month, on April 22nd, giving some players an early chance to play it.
How to Join the Closed Beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

I’m so excited for Osiris Reborn, but it’s still a little ways off from being fully released. The good news is they’re doing a Closed Beta soon! We’ll get to play one of the first missions, which will give us a really good feel for how the game plays. I’ll be able to create my character – either a guy from Earth or a woman from the Belt – and choose between being an Officer or a Hacker. The mission itself is supposed to show off the combat, how movement works in zero gravity, and what life is like on the space station. It sounds amazing!
If you pre-order either the Miller’s Pack or Collector’s Edition of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn directly from the Owlcat website, you’ll get access to the Closed Beta starting April 22nd. The Beta will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, letting players on all platforms try the game before its official release. Owlcat is looking forward to using feedback from the Beta to improve the game, just as they have with their previous titles.
Players can experience The Expanse: Osiris Reborn on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting in Spring 2027. The game will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at launch.
