A French source believes a PS5 price hike is imminent.
On X (formerly Twitter), an account named GyoJvFR is advising people who are thinking of buying a PlayStation to expect a significant price increase soon.
According to his message, prices will increase as follows:
- PS5 Slim
- From €549.99 (~$634) to €649.99 (~$749)
- PS5 Pro
- From €799.99 (~$922) to €899.99 (~$1,038)
- PS Portal
- From €219.99 (~$253) to €249.99 (~$288)
He says the announcement is coming soon, but he doesn’t know exactly when it will take effect. This same person correctly predicted similar Xbox price increases last year.
We haven’t been able to confirm this information yet, but we’ve reached out to Sony for a statement.
As you’ve likely noticed, the economy is currently facing challenges, and the growing use of artificial intelligence is driving up the cost of essential computer parts, leading to higher prices overall.
PlayStation deserves praise for ensuring they have enough consoles available for the remainder of the year. They’ve also stated their plan to generate more revenue from their current players to cover rising expenses.
These price increases seem unusually high to us. Considering the PlayStation 5 originally cost €499.99, this represents a possible €150 price jump after five years on the market.
We’ll share more information as soon as we have it, but for now, consider this just a rumor until we find stronger proof.
