Major PS5 Price Increase Rumored to Happen Very Soon

A recent rumor suggests the price of the PlayStation 5 will be increasing soon. With the current global economic challenges – including rising inflation, the effects of ongoing conflicts on energy costs, and continued supply chain issues – the cost of everything, including video game consoles and games themselves, is going up. These problems, which started during the COVID-19 pandemic, haven’t been fully resolved, and the cost of essential components and shipping continues to climb due to high demand.

Usually, the cost of game consoles goes down as newer versions are released. However, this generation has been different, especially with the PlayStation 5, which has seen its price increase twice. In 2022, the PS5 got more expensive worldwide, except in the United States. Then, in 2025, the price went up again, and this time the US wasn’t excluded – the console jumped from $499 to $549. With manufacturing and shipping costs continuing to rise, it’s not surprising that people are now talking about a possible third price increase.

PS5 Price Increase

According to a report on X (formerly Twitter) from Gyo, the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and the Portal handheld are expected to get more expensive. The new prices are said to be €649.99 for the PS5, €899.99 for the PS5 Pro, and €249.99 for the Portal. It’s currently unclear if these price increases will affect the United States, as USD prices haven’t been announced – it could be a European price change only.

I was looking into the Japanese pricing, and it works out to about $750, $1,000, and $300. But honestly, I don’t think those prices would translate directly to the US or Europe. Sony would be taking a huge risk pricing the PS5 that low with the Xbox Series X and the new Switch out – it just wouldn’t make sense for them.

Keep in mind that this information is currently unconfirmed. It’s just a rumor, but the rumor suggests an official announcement is coming soon. Sony hasn’t responded to requests for comment, and we don’t anticipate they will, though we’ll update this article if that changes.
