Do you recall last year when Sony created a lot of buzz around a more affordable PlayStation 5 that was only available in Japan?
The PlayStation 5 was facing difficulties in Japan because of rising prices and a weaker yen. Similar to the anticipated Switch 2, Sony released a version of the PS5 locked to specific languages, priced at ¥55,000 (around $344).
Considering the significant and rapid rise in global prices, how will this affect the platform holder’s strategy?
Surprisingly, the price of the language model will remain unchanged.
Instead, it’ll be increasing the price of all other options as follows:
- PS5
- ¥97,980 (~$612)
- PS5 Digital Edition
- ¥89,980 (~$562)
- PS5 Pro
- ¥137,980 (~$862)
In Japan, the console version with the language restriction is significantly cheaper – about half the price – compared to other versions.
You’ll need to know Japanese and have a Japanese PlayStation Network account to use this. Honestly, it’s such a good deal that it’s hard to imagine anyone in Japan buying a different version.
