James Gunn has hinted at a significant event brewing within the DC Universe, and a fresh theory proposes an ideal DC Comics narrative that could follow after the conclusion of Superman and Peacemaker’s second seasons. The revamped DCU, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, has made a strong start with the July 2025 release of Superman, marking the debut of the new franchise following the premiere of the animated Creature Commandos series on HBO Max in 2024. As more projects gear up to enlarge the universe, there’s intrigue about what will unite the new DCU characters.
In a recent chat with Screen Rant, James Gunn hinted at a significant occurrence where the stories from the first chapter of the DC Universe, titled “Gods and Monsters,” will intersect. Although he mentioned it’s not what people might expect, BobbensArtsDen speculates that following Superman and trailers for Peacemaker Season 2, the live-action DCU could be gearing up for an adaptation of Earth-Three from DC Comics. This potential crossover event would be thrilling for the DC Universe, and the introductions of Ultraman and a double of Peacemaker might suggest this narrative’s unfolding.
Earth 3, it’s Earth 3 isn’t it.

Originally appearing in Justice League of America #29 from 1964, created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, Earth-Three is an alternate universe that reflects the main DC narrative but is populated by wicked counterparts of DC’s most renowned heroes. Significantly, Lex Luthor, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in Superman, is the lone superhero on this planet inhabited by villains – among which might be familiar faces from the live-action DC Universe, potentially paving the way for Earth-Three’s introduction and potential resolution within a Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation.
In the year 2025’s Superman movie titled after Clark Kent, David Corenswet not only portrayed Superman but was also unmasked as Ultraman. It turned out that Lex Luthor had used some of Superman’s hair to create a clone who lacked intelligence but was stronger and easier to manage. In Season 2 of Peacemaker, John Cena’s character Christopher Smith will encounter his doppelgänger, who appears from the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. This could hint at more sinister versions of DC heroes emerging in future projects.
Transforming Earth-Three into live-action would introduce the malicious equivalents of the Justice League, known as the Crime Syndicate of America, into the DC Universe. Since Ultraman is part of this group in DC Comics, it’s possible that Superman has paved the way for their arrival, especially if characters like Superwoman, Johnny Quick, Atomica, and Sea King join him in future projects. Additionally, other DC characters such as Supergirl, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, The Brave and the Bold, and more could also debut their villainous counterparts, making James Gunn’s upcoming major DCU event potentially a catastrophe on Earth-Three.
