I’ve been really getting into action shows on Netflix lately, and I stumbled upon this amazing, short martial arts series that I think more people should know about. Netflix seems to be onto something with these kinds of shows – from the popularity of Cobra Kai to Bloodhounds, they clearly know what fans want, and I’m totally hooked!

However, the recent live-action version of Yu Yu Hakusho managed to strike a perfect balance – it stayed true to the original story while still feeling fresh and fitting for a live-action format.
The story of Yusuke Urameshi, a rebellious teen who becomes a Spirit Detective, works really well as both a live-action show and an anime. Despite all the supernatural events, the series keeps its focus on the core themes.
One of the best things about the live-action version of Yu Yu Hakusho is how faithfully it adapts the original story. While the show is shorter than the source material, it successfully preserves the elements that made the story so engaging. As a huge fan, one of the things I love most about Yu Yu Hakusho is how great it is to watch all at once! The original anime has four seasons and 60 episodes, but even the new Netflix remake, with just five episodes, still feels totally complete. They really managed to fit in tons of action, keep you on the edge of your seat, and make you care about the characters, so it never feels rushed or incomplete.
The series immediately grabs your attention with the introduction of Yasuke, following his journey from a troublemaker to a hero. However, this Netflix adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho significantly alters the original story, squeezing multiple plotlines into just five episodes.
Why Netflix’s Yu Yu Hakusho Only Has One Season
Yu Yu Haksuho Came To A Natural Conclusion
Given Netflix’s habit of canceling shows, it was natural to worry that Yu Yu Hakusho might also be canceled. Luckily, this live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho was created as a complete, self-contained story.
The anime adaptation streamlines the original story. Events that happen much later in the source material, such as the attacks by the Makai insects, are moved to the very first episode of the Netflix series, Yu Yu Hakusho. The introductions of characters Kurama and Hiei are combined with the storyline of rescuing Yukina, and the lengthy Dark Tournament is replaced by a series of one-on-one battles shown in the last two episodes.
The live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho on Netflix concluded in a way that makes a continuation unlikely. With Younger Toguro’s death in the finale, key storylines like the Dark Tournament can’t really be included. Ultimately, the series successfully adapted the main arcs of the anime and reached a satisfying ending.
