Before becoming known for the Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti helped create and produce a show about two brothers growing up in a small town. The series had a unique premise: one of the brothers was fated to become President of the United States.
Despite receiving rave reviews, the TV show Jack & Bobby didn’t attract a large audience and was cancelled after one season. However, twenty years later, it still has a loyal following, and now it will be easier for fans to share the show with others.
Plus, many of the actors from Jack & Bobby, which originally aired in 2005, have become well-known stars since then.
Jack & Bobby Was Filled With Talent
It’s not unusual for a few actors from a canceled TV show to become famous later on, but it’s rare for a show that didn’t succeed to have so much talent. Jack & Bobby was one of those exceptions. When it originally aired, Christine Lahti, who later starred in Evil, was the established name, already known for her Oscar nomination and previous work.
Lahti worked alongside many talented actors. Matt Long, who later appeared in shows like Mad Men and Manifest, played Jack, the older McCallister brother. Logan Lerman, famous for his role in the Percy Jackson films, the acclaimed series We Were the Lucky Ones, and the teen drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower, played Bobby.
Jessica Paré, known for her roles in Mad Men and SEAL Team, played Courtney Benedict, who eventually becomes First Lady, in the show Jack & Bobby. Interestingly, John Slattery, who later became famous for Mad Men, played her father. It’s striking to consider that if Jack & Bobby had been successful, Mad Men – which premiered just two years later – might have been a very different show.
Bradley Cooper appeared in the fourth episode of Jack & Bobby, playing a romantic interest for Christine Lahti. He also had a role in Wedding Crashers that same year, but his big breakthrough didn’t come until four years later with The Hangover. Jack & Bobby featured several guest stars who went on to achieve success, including Kyle Gallner (Smile, Dinner in America) and Kate Mara.
The Behind The Scenes Talent Was Just As Impressive
The people who originally made the show all went on to have successful careers. Greg Berlanti created the popular Arrowverse shows, and also wrote and directed the movie Love, Simon and co-created the Netflix series You. Steven A. Cohen later produced the animated shows BoJack Horseman and Tuca & Bertie.
Before creating the beloved children’s book series I Am with artist Chris Eliopoulos – which highlights the lives of various historical figures – Brad Meltzer had already established himself as a successful author and comic book writer. Separately, Vanessa Taylor received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for her work on The Shape of Water.
Jack & Bobby Is Coming To Hulu On April 1
The TV show Jack & Bobby is coming back to streaming on April 1st! You’ll be able to watch it on both Hulu and Disney+ with Hulu. This is a great chance for fans to revisit the series, and for new viewers to discover a show that didn’t get the attention it deserved when it first aired.
Although the show doesn’t fully wrap up its storyline, the final episode of Jack & Bobby provides a reasonably satisfying conclusion, and includes one last notable guest star: Tim Robbins, who voices the future President of the United States.
